    TargetMaster's incident last week

A post from an employee on duty that night at THR.

There are a LOT of questions I'd be asking the sister and family friend... if it was known that she had problems.. WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY DOING LETTING HER GO TO A RANGE???????????

Now that I have screwed on my tinfoil hat.... I'm thinking that they knew she was going to off herself and were there to give her moral support to go through with it as that is what she wanted..................

      Tinfoil hat off now.............

Thats pretty crazy because one of my classmates sometimes goes to that range to shoot pistols with his dad.

People that are TRULY gonna kill themselves just do it.

The whiners that want attention are the ones that talk about it where people know they "might" do it... The truly despondent just make it happen...

There's a GOOD chance no one had any idea she was gonna do it...Heck she mighta been mentally unstable and didn't know she was gonna do it until she had a gun in her hand and realized she could... You never know.

One thing I thought was weird was this:

The woman apparently met the necessary legal requirements: She filled out a form that states one should not be despondent or contemplating suicide, she was at least 21 years old and she was a U.S. citizen.
I guess she broke the law, lying on the form about being suicidal

I guess that's for liability, eh?

Also, since when do you have to be 21 to RENT a handgun, or be a US citizen? Heck in Vegas, Ive seen 10yr olds shooting MGs and pistols and all sorts of stuff, I've also seen obvious foreign nationals renting guns too... I guess its just a range policy?

I was there Monday night and it was business as usual; all lanes were open.
It was actualy quite crowded so I didn't get a chance to chat
            with the employees.

Snipped this from the article, "The Target Masters employee said California law does not require a waiting period to rent a handgun."

Lets hope this doesn't get any traction.

The Target Masters employee said California law does not require a waiting period to rent a handgun.

WTF is this implying!?!? Should Kali going to start making people go through a ten day waiting period to rent a handgun?!!?!? Funny how they twist things, they probably asked the employee if there is a waiting period and the employee said no then misconstrued things to make it come out differently

According to an ATF ruling non-permanent residents are not allowed to rent firearms unless they are in possession of a valid hunting license.
Having a CA driver's license is NOT enough, since a lot of foreigners are here on non-permanent visas.
A lot of ranges have no f**cking clue about this though.
Had a big 'fight' with Reed's when I moved here, since they refused to let me rent guns, even though I had all the paperwork, but as soon as I got my driver's license everything was just fine. (And they told me they were only following federal rules, when in fact they could very well have broken them by allowing me to rent after only showing my driver's license)

I assume most foreigners don't really know this either, but thats not going to help when ATF comes down on their asses.

                  From ATF:
(R33) I'm a nonimmigrant alien who is coming to the United States for two weeks to go hunting. Can I rent a firearm in the United States to use on this trip? What if I want to go to a shooting range one day - can I rent a firearm there as well?

As long as you possess a valid hunting license from a State within the United States, you may rent firearms to hunt and to use at a shooting range. If you do not have the hunting license, your possession of the firearms and ammunition will be unlawful. The hunting license does NOT have to be from the State where you will be possessing the guns and ammunition.
                  [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(5) and (9), 922(g)(5)(B) and 922(y)]

edit: All ranges should ask renters if they are US citizens and if the answer is no, ask to see their passports and/or hunting licenses. Quick and easy way to CYA.

                    Crazy...

Man, I've seen felons rent MGs in Vegas, they usually don't even take a copy of your DL or anything at a lot of the ranges....

                      US Visa will work

I brought a co-worker from China to Reed's last night. They require a US visa on foreign passports. They explained that this has hurt business somewhat from tourists but the feds have cracked down after 9/11.

TargetMasters should bill the dead woman's estate for cleanup fees.

OR, they will just ban rentals all together.

Screw TM. I wont ever shoot there again. I like the rental option there, but there are just too many idiots shooting there. Especially when there is a deal night, like thursday nights. Ladies shoot half off. Last time I was there, bunch of non english speaking people laughing their ****** off and pointing the gun past the 90 degree angle into the next lane and sometime even behind it. I reported it to the range employees but you don't wanna be in that next lane when there is an accidental discharge. Newbies gotta learn, sure, but it should be a law to have an experienced person accompany any newbie. Lots of people don't take firearm safety as serious as it really should be.

Plus TM is known as suicide central for the bay area. One of the few places where guns can be rented.
