    22-250

Does anybody here shoot 22-250? It seems like an awesome little round. What is it for?

My friend has a bolt action rifle in 22-250, I think it is a Tikka. He usually uses it mainly for target shooting, but it would also seem to make a great varmint cartridge as it is wicked fast and flat shooting.

I don't shoot it. I have shot it. It is an awesome little cartridge. It is primarily for shooting varmints. A buddy of mine shot (and immediately killed) an antelope with one.

Most people use them for long range varmint work.

If you mean a bottlenecked cartridge, then yes. Otherwise I don't see the similarity between .357 sig and .22-250. I guess they are both centerfire and rimless...

The AR10 will take a 22.250 round. Factory 22.250 barrels were not used for long range shooting originally because the factory twists were either 12" or 14" which would only handle light bullets. Savage and a few other offer 9" twist barrels and now you can shoot varmints past 600 yards with heavy bullets. I use it for medium to long range varminting and for coyotes out to about 400 yards or so.

The 22.250 was created by necking down the old 250 Savage round to 22 caliber about 80 years ago and in the 1960s Remington renamed it the 22.250 Remington and submitted it to SAAMI for factory legitimization. It will push a 50 grain bullet over 3900 fps and the 36 grain bullets will go 4300+ fps.

That is interesting.. AR10's are too expensive though.

It's a long range (300+) small game cartridge. Also see .243 win and .223 rem.

I use mine for prairie dogs, ground squirrels and the occasional coyote with 50-55 gr bullets.

I have heard 22-250...25/06....243 are barrel burners?
I really wanted a 25/06 and was talked out of it.

Well I think it might be worth it?
I searched the googlenet and I couldn't find what I was looking for.

How much do you really think you're going to shoot? Do you really think it would be that painful to spend $400 bucks on getting a new barrel chambered and spun on after a couple thousand+ rounds?

You think having a bolt action AR in .22-250 would be worth it? I'd just get a Winchester 70, a Reminton 700 or a Tikka T3 and call it a day.
