    Cleaning...(Froglube)

I've had some sort of firearm in my home for my entire life, but never a handgun. I recently caught the bug though and an outlier of my "new" interest has been a re-evaluation of what I know (don't know) about gun-cleaning. After a bit of research I'm leaning toward Froglube. The only horror stories I've been able to find seem to be due to using it incorrectly.
I'd like to hear from folks that have used it if you have the time. If you still use it tell me why. If you stopped using it tell me why. Thanks in advance, and I apologize if this has been covered previously (It's a Saturday night and I've been drinking).

P.S. My first handgun will be a Sig Sauer P226 MK25

A previous thread revealed Frog Lube is actually coconut oil. I don't feel like finding the link but you might try searching.

FYI for all of my handguns I use CLP. My guns all function reliably and consistently.

Even so, does it work? Have you used it DDM?

Haven't used it - no. Just heard a lot of people complain about it.

I'm sure someone will chime in that you can get better advice from.

I have been using it for a few years now and like it. It may just be mint scented coconut oil but it keeps my guns running well and I can clean them in the house and my wife doesn't flip out because of chemical smells. The key is to follow the directions

Any lube treatment that has to be done correctly to work properly, doesn't belong on a firearm.

I love froglube for the OUTSIDE of my firearm. I had a problem with a Kimber flash rusting in humid environments, and no matter how many times I wiped it down with oil it would start rusting within a few days. After I wiped it down with froglube, I haven't had a problem since and I only have to reapply every few months instead of days.

I do not use FL on the inside of the gun, that's still the job for Hoppe's or Lubriplate 130A depending on the firearm.

For cleaning a gun, CLP or Hoppe's #9. CLP works best, Hoppe's #9 is nothing more than scented kerosene.

If you clean your gun with Froglube and leave it in a safe, in most cases, it'll gunk up. Smells nice, but takes way too much time and effort and not worth it IMO.

I used it when I first got into shooting, but now I just use Ballistol.

The only horror stories you've seen are from people using it incorrectly? That's odd, because every time there's a horror story about FL posted on calguns, it's the FL fans that insist it must have been used incorrectly no matter how many times the person who had the issue stated they followed instructions. It was so idiotic at one point that there were people seriously discussing using crock pots and letting guns parts sit in it so they could soak the froglube into the "pores".

The gunking, seizing, molding, etc. doesn't happen with other lubricants, nor do those other lubricants require a "process" to apply.

After spending hours properly applying it to most of my firearms, it worked ok for a couple years. I didn't notice any advantage over other products I used. After moving back to the Midwest, I noticed it starting to gunk up in the late fall/early winter range sessions. My 22's actually started jamming and wouldn't cycle properly. I spent several hours reversing the application process and have had no issues since using M Pro-7. I'll never go back to FL and am mad at myself for buying into the hype to begin with.
