I dont get it... there are so many guns in the marketplace that are way more than walking into a gun shop and purchasing. I would think one would be able to get a deal here on used guns.. what gives.
One example; glock 27... at turners for $520 but $700plus on this marketplace.
What am I missing.

There are many a thread on this. People sell at the price they want to sell or people don't mind over paying or its off roster. Buy or don't buy.

OP's is somewhat unrelated, I think, but it really comes down to people thinking their "mods" actually "enhance" the value of a pistol.

Some people are asking for what they paid for them. If you buy in the market place without doing your homework, you will kick yourself in the arse. I've seen a difference of hundreds of dollars from someone selling in the marketplace and gunbroker.

I've sold a few firearms in the marketplace for a lot less than what I paid for them. I didn't need the money. The firearm market is saturated right now, there are excellent deals everywhere, do your homework.

I like browsing the classifieds to see what's out there and what pricing is like. I don't get too bothered by pricing because if a item is over priced, it won't sell. Whatever the market will bear is what it will bear. To me, a listed price is just a starting point, regardless of what the ad says.

There could be a number of reasons for a specific price, such as:

1. Off roster. Gotta love our limited selection. Anything off roster will command a premium IMO
2. Rare. Similar to off roster. If a limited number are out there, money talks.
3. Upgrades. Maybe the standard handgun was upgraded with better parts (e.g., night sights, performance trigger, custom grips, etc.). We all know everyone who invests in upgrades wants to get back 100% of that investment at a minimum ;-)
4. Testing the waters. Seller might not really want to sell and is putting a number out there just to see what the offers/reaction is.
5. Greed. Kind of like testing the waters, but maybe someone out there just has to have this now or it's something they've been looking for and price is not an issue. How many of us thought $2,000 for a Python was too much years ago? Some guns will increase in value, others won't.
6. Thinning the herd. In no hurry to sell and wanting to get the maximum return. Probably a combination of a few of the above factors mixed in.

I'm sure there are plenty more reasons, these are just a few that come to mind.

It doesn't mean that they actually get the amount they are asking for. Some of the attitude is because of low ballers. It's a balancing act.
