the laws are a run around for the buyer, to discourage ownership.
the laws are secondarily to discourage places like SG from shipping perfectly legal products into the state, by being unneccesarily complicated. they are able to work around the law if they wished, but, they would rather not spend the man-hours figuring them out. in that way they are aiding the abuse of our legal rights at the hands of our own lawmakers.

I agree it is galling for a company that profits from the shooting sports to restrict sales when not required to do so by law. But I feel the best way to deal with the situation is for me to spend my money elsewhere and to ensure they know why.

The bottom line on their email to me (and others) is literally "the bottom line". It profits their company more to not sell in CA for fear of or from the results of lawsuits. When lost sales to CA exceeds their concern over losses (or potential losses) from legal action perhaps they'll change their company position.

I wouldn't bother e-mailing advertisers or anything like that. It is their business decision, just respect that and choose accordingly. I gave up on those places just the same as many as you. I can find my items elsewhere with people who want to support California business by taking the time to invest in us. They get my money and I am happy to give it to them.
