    Sportmans Guide Response

Sportmans Guide responded to my "I'm not buying from you anymore" email and provided an answer as to why they do not ship certain CA legal items into CA:

Subject: Re: Your Club Membership expires in 14 days!

Gary, As I informed one of your Customer Service Reps a few months ago, I will not renew my membership and I want your company to remove my name from your mailing & email list. Your company's "no sales to CA" policy on items clearly legal in CA - wood stocks and sights and scope mounts and parts on all sorts of semi auto rifles that are perfectly legal in CA - is part of my decision. Your company recently refusing to ship hi cap magazines to my OREGON home (where I've maintained a residence for 10 years) because I have a CA billing address and additional residence listed is also a reason. As the rep said "we have our company policy". I have mine. I and many other CA residents will not do business with Sportman's Guide so long as it refuses to ship legal items to California.

    Dear Douglas,

    Thank you for your email.

Thank you for your question on items that have mailing restrictions. We have placed restrictions on specific items listed in our catalog and our web site.
Due to the various state, county and municipal laws that exist, we are not always able to comply with each individual guideline.
Not all of the restrictions are based on laws on the books, but could be a company decision based on other particular concerns. These may include whether the state has law suits pending involving gun owners and recent court decisions that may affect businesses like ours.

Also, it may be that the states' laws are so vague that they could be interpreted unfavorably in the event a court action was ever involved.

We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. If you have any questions please contact us.

    Enjoy the Outdoors!

You've done all you can do. Until they perceive their policies are costing them more $$ in business than they think they are risking, they won't change.

And it's their business, no matter how wrong-headed their policies. May they have much joy of it.

I changed the structure a bit, in it's original form the "cut & paste" form was a little more obvious. I suppose that means more than a few people have griped.

Sportsman's Guide is now the title sponsor of American Rifleman Television, the NRA magazine show on Outdoor Channel.

Sportsman's Guide has a policy to not ship legal items to some areas because they don't want to take the trouble to understand local restrictions.

We should direct our concerns to Mark Keefe IV, Editor-in-Chief American Rifleman Magazine and host of American Rifleman television.

Why should the NRA endorse further and unwarranted limitations of our rights as gun owners?

how dare yee! sportsmansguide is beast mode. they have pretty much the best deals on .223s. i got a 500 pack of brass .223 for $170 and a 1000 pack of wolfs for $250. everywhere else is so much more expensive. and members get like 10% off, and (assuming you buy $100 worth of ammo each time) you get another $10 off. for 500 brass .223, after the whole transaction, it only cost me $160.

you guys just don't understand how many activities all that ammo lets me do.

the only thing i don't understand is why they wont sell nightvision to CA.

I don't agree with SG's position here, but how are they limiting your rights? Do you maintain that you have a right to buy things from them, or that they have a duty to sell to you?

They don't have anything you can't find at any number of other stores at equal or lower prices.

the laws are a run around for the buyer, to discourage ownership.
the laws are secondarily to discourage places like SG from shipping perfectly legal products into the state, by being unneccesarily complicated. they are able to work around the law if they wished, but, they would rather not spend the man-hours figuring them out. in that way they are aiding the abuse of our legal rights at the hands of our own lawmakers.

Yeah, so? They aren't interested in working around the laws or spending man hours figuring them out. Spend your money elsewhere.

Let me translate their email reponse to the one they received saying "I'm not going to buy from you anymore."

                              They replied, "We don't care."
