Good strap wrench for gunsmithing work?

Perhaps gunsmithing is too professional a word for what I'm doing, which is to replace the recoil spring on my Benelli Supersport 12g shotgun.

    Its basically this process here:

However, I don't have a good strap wrench so when I tried it, the entire recoil tube rotated when I twisted the recoil spring retention nut.

Can someone recommend me a good strap wrench which will let me hold the recoil tube securely while I try to break the retention nut loose? The strap wrench the guy used in the video looks much more substantial than what I have which doesn't hold the tube tight at all.

    Thanks.

The one in the video looks like a Craftsman. I have a Rigid that I found at home depot , ( plumbing supply ) I use for hand guards. But the Rigid is not made of rubber. Just Google strap wrench. Harbor freight even has them.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
    I'm Back.

Thanks! Looks like a trip to Sears and Home Depot is in order for the weekend.

Years ago I bought a couple Craftsman strap wrenches. I still have one. The other one broke.

Recently I picked up two from Harbor Freight. These are a little nicer in the way they hold the strap tight.

If there's a Harbor Freight near you, go that way. They're better and cheaper. If Sears is closer, you'll pay a little more, and their strap wrenches aren't really all that bad.

Use some rosin that they put on violin bows, use it on the strap of the w3rench and it keeps the strap from slipping.

And remember you need to scuff the rosin cake with sandpaper before you rub the cake on your strap wrench. If you don't it won't actually rosin your strap wrench.

Thanks, never knew this. My current strap wrench simply would not grip the recoil tube at all, hopefully a new strap wrench with rosin applied will do the trick.

Or you can scuff it on your thre e-day beard. If you're a man.

You can also find rosin at any sporting goods store that sells baseball bats or bowling balls.

I don't think a strap wrench is the right tool. Rather I believe you need a tool that will insert into the hole at the the end of the tube and wrap around the tube similar to the way you would instal or remove a castle nut on an AR.

You could probably make one similar to this:

Kelin tools makes a really nice one. Meant for turning rigid conduit. The strap is rubberized for grip. On my phone so I can't give an Amazon link. But 12" is $22 and some change.

the tool you linked is for a AR castle nut and 1911 barrel bushing.
the OP needs a strap wrench to hold a tube on a shotgun. watch the video.

I bought a second 2 pack (large & small) at Lowes: ( it's the Kobalt brand ,blue color) ; they're so popular around my house, it's the only way I can find one.
