I don't know what it weighs, but you know you are going to add at least eight to ten pounds if you're going to mount a shotgun, handgun, and ammo in it.

The trick is to mount it directly into the studs of your wall. I imagine that the OP has spaced the mounting brackets 16" or 32" apart to align with the mounting requirement.

This is California, with the number and severity of earthquakes we have, anybody should be accustomed to hanging heavy items directly to the wall studs.

Weight should only be an issue for shipping purposes.

no need to worry over stud spacing, there are plenty of hollow wall anchors available more than adequately rated to handle the load..

of course studs are ideal, even if you only hit one, but not a deal breaker..

remember though, don't drill a clearance hole for an anchor on or too close to a stud or it won't expand properly..

find your studs and screw directly to the center of them or anchor clear to the side of them..

and once installed, anchors are more difficult to repair than a screw hole.. so make sure the missus approves before drilling

Hollow-Wall Anchors: How to Hang a Picture With No Stud

I've used a lot of these for extremely secure cabinet mounting to augment and in some cases in lieu of stud attachments..

be mindful of grip length [amount of material the anchor is expanding through] and weight ratings when shopping..

good luck, we've already selected a wall for ours as soon as it arrives

Thanks! Since it's not a huge flag to fit a a big weapon it really does not stand out like that. Everyone who comes over never thinks it is what it is.

Yep we have brackets spaced 16" on center in the compartment and a bracket between them for 3 mounting points for wall anchor guys. They hold very tight with toggle bolts and are super solid. There is a video on our page.

no, its because it looks like a massive box hanging on the wall, not a typical piece of wall decor. Will stick to my concealed shelf

I've considered that thought. My thinking is that you could cut into a non-bearing wall and frame it in to accept the box so that it reduces it's signature and more resembles a piece of Art, not just a box hanging on the wall. It's just a thought, take it or leave it. Not really an option of course if you are a renter lacking approval.

Solid idea. You likely couldn't perfectly flush recess since the doors need to open and look to slightly overhang the box itself.

Just the box would be recessed, the stars and bars would be proud of the wall's finished surface.
