    Registered firearms = pending confiscation

Guo Shou, 33, of Rego Park, had 225 pounds of gunpowder, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition, bullet-making equipment, assault rifles and several bullet proof vests, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

The arsenal was discovered when officers conducted an administrative pistol licensee review at Shou's home Monday. The officers spotted the gunpowder and some of the ammunition lying in plain sight.

They then got a court order to search the entire apartment, located on 65-60 Wetherole St., which is less than two blocks away from Public School 139 Rego Park.

"It is extremely disturbing to find such a lethal arsenal of this magnitude in a residential community," Brown said. "Alone, the amount of gunpowder discovered was capable of igniting and causing significant damage to not only the defendant's apartment but to neighboring apartments and the building's exterior walls, as well as injuring or killing anyone unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity."

Shou was arraigned Tuesday night and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of the most serious offense.

All told, cops seized: 14 licensed handguns, which were not properly secured in a safe; two loaded licensed shotguns; one licensed rifle; approximately 45,000 rounds of ammunition for multiple weapons; two Kevlar body armor vests; and six Kevlar armor plates.
Reckless of him to leave that stuff in plain sight, especially with NYPD knocking on your door BUT that's all he said she said, the fact that all of the firearms were "licensed" to begin with, his 'arsenal' was already documented and the authorities already knew how many firearms he had.

This is bull s**t. What the #$%^ is an "administrative pistol licensee review"? Is that like what cops can do when they pull you over to ask for your driver's license and registration? Only in this case, they can do at your home at anytime without any cause?

I agree it was not smart, but what part of any of that is illegal?? Sounds like the weapons were all legally registered. And yeah, he had a lot of power and ammo, but is there a law against stockpiling?
And if 14 handguns and 3 long guns constitutes an "arsenal" then I am in big trouble lol

History has shown your title for the thread to be correct time after time.

Not sure, but I think there is a limit on how much smokeless powder someone can have.

Guns lying around is pure stupidity.

Apparently it's limited to 15#'s in NY...

And his bail was set to $250k! Holy smokes, you'd think that was 225lbs of cocaine...

                    Yep.

My Sig sits on top of my computer while I'm at it, or in the bedroom when I'm not. The rifle sits in the closet and all future firearms will also be stored unless I am actively doing something with them.

For all we know, they could have all been stored properly.

Why are guns out in the open "in his apartment" so stupid?

I sometimes pull all my guns out from the safe for routine cleaning. Is that against the law?

If he lives alone or he and his wife have no kids, what's wrong with that? Unless NY has some sort of asinine locked storage when not in use requirement.
                            Sorry, not sorry.
