I was thinking more along the lines of an online auction service like gunbroker.com but geared towards buyers in California with merchants who are happy to be selling to our market.

Yes, the gunslingers domain is selling for $58,000+ so I wouldn't touch it, better to choose something else. I've thought of this already, but a forum like calguns works out well for less trouble than the effort of setting up a sole California auction website. What happens post Nordyke incorporation? You may not have a nice captive market like you think you do.
