    Ammo/Shop Experience

I've been kind of cooped up getting over a surgery. Very fatiguing I'm not the young buck I used to be. Decided to get out of the house and headed to a place that has ammo to stock up for the next shooting weekend.

Never been there before and I'm not going to say which one it was. But, I was looking at some of the 'niftier' rounds in the cases when I asked about +P and some other stuff. I saw a sign in the case that said 'Law Enforcement Only.' They asked, 'are you LE?' I said no. The guy looked at my hat and said 'you a FLyers fan' while bouncing his head up and down. I said yeah. Then he asked me again, 'are you LE' with his head bouncing up and down.

Well, lets just say I have some very nifty things I can try at some point.

Anyone else have similar experiences? I was wondering if it was common for things to be so .... flexible.

Kind of sounds like Greta's. Most stores don't restrict any ammo on the shelves to LE only. Most stores that do that are just following a corporate policy. I think Winchester restricts some types of JHP to LE only sales and some of the +P+ ammo by various manufacturers is also restricted.

These are not laws just policies of the manufacturer. The ammo is available if you really want it and shop around.

Apparently you took "Drift" in High School. Glad it worked out.

Like I Swan said, it's probably just a company policy thing.

Dumb. Must be an over-reaching store policy and reach-around to impress LEO customers; and backwards.

                  Can't buy +P - but I can buy .357MAG, .44MAG, .454 Cassull, .480 Ruger, or .500 S&W among others without issue?

No preventative law I know of unless it's some crazy ordinance, and I highly doubt that. There were attempts in CA and certain CA cities to ban sales of ANY "+P and magnum" ammo in the past, but I don't know of a single one that went through.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

Never heard of LEO only ammo before. Seen it on boxes, but considered it to be a marketing ploy, as nothing in the law precludes +p ammo etc... from purchase to anyone over 18, or 21, don't remember which.
