It sounds odd, but this is a home invasion scenario.
Anyone in the house, yes Christmas and all, who had a gun available could have used it in their defense.
The Jody Foster types see this as a reason for people to not have guns.
I see it as a reason for having them, using them for home defense, and as the first line of defense while waiting for LE to arrive.Originally posted by gravediggerHaven't you ever had anything nag at you to the point you can no longer ignore it? -
I'll never get how many excuses people come up with to NOT have a firearm. I always ask "how much is your life worth?" They talk about security systems and the Police, and it happens to OTHER people.
Truly sad when everyone expects their own safety to be somebody elses responibilityThere are 3 kinds of people in this world.
The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

Thats exactly what I was thinking when the 911 operator was trying to make small talk as the poor girls family was being killed. The girl was saying "please come quickly" and the 911 operator kept saying "I have officers in route" and this went on over and over tell everyone was dead.
F**king pathetic on behalf of LEO.
They want to take guns of the street, but they can't even get to the scene...
This classic sums it up for me...

I doubt that the whole group was standing in the same exit-less room as the shooter when the first girl was shot, someone would have had a chance to arm them self if it was an option. It was a surprise attack on unsuspecting victims. We can say, "If they only answered the door with a Glock 17...."; but it was a traditional festive occasion that no one suspected.

You guys seem to forget that your average citizen doesn't think like gun owners do.
How many of us where carrying while carving into the holiday Turkey?
Home invasion is a scary thing. Happens fast. Knock at the door...door opens. First victim down.

Sorry, the helecopter with the SWAT guys was down for maintenance. You know, the role of a dispatcher is to try to calm people down while getting the call out. You don't think that the cops were rolling HARD to that call? You are an idiot if you think otherwise. Maybe if so many idiot people like you weren't wasting our time with calls of service like, "my neighbors dog keeps barking!" that keeps us out of our cars and unable to get to the call that much quicker, they might have been able to save a life or two. There are a lot of people that think we roll around in a total blanket over the city, and that we are able to go a hundred and fifty miles and hour down a street, slide around a corner with all four tires smoking while preparing to tuck and roll.sigpicComment

i think his statement.. was that MOST of the time LEO are on the scene after an incident of this type/ IF there wer mor LAX gun laws that maybe someone in the house, neighborhhod might of had a weapon and could of immediately maybe saved some lives!!!Comment

which is why lots of people here including myself make it a serious priority to teach and convert as many sheeple as possible.
Myself for one. Something about travel and a known time for most people being known to have more cash and valuables on them than any other time of year kinda adds up to high risk in my mind. How many of us where carrying while carving into the holiday turkey?

Thanks for making the point. I was getting a rash of shat for holding the glock behind my back everytime there was a stranger at the door. I mentioned the people cowering while on 911 waiting for help. Kinda made the wife change her perspective.Originally posted by Spiggy....

This isn't about carrying a gun, the first shot was at the front door right? The one lady broke her keg jumping out of a second story window, right? How many front doors are on the second floor? A gun any where in the house could have drastically changed the outcome."It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." -AristotleComment

I wasn't armed when carving the turkey, but that is because it was a ham.
My dad did say something about it the other day "you expecting a home invasion?"
I said "No, but I'll be ready for one if it does happen."
I find it confusing that doing his tours in Iraq and stuff that he doesn't understand my anytime...anywhere state of alert.
I have said it before and will repeat....I am almost ALWAYS armed with a firearm within arms reach if not on my hip. If someone does come through the door in our apartment there won't be enough time to think about where you put your gun.Comment

Youre telling me that you think the cops were strolling along the boardwalk while this was happening and not trying their best to get there to save those people? You my friend just slapped EVERY police officer in this great country of ours in the face and balls if you think that. Cops CANT be everywhere every time in a second. Thats a known fact. yes I think that people should be responsible for their safety within a reasonable margin but how many people go around armed to the teeth prepared to repel invaders at Christmas dinner. Maybe if youre a total end of the world doom and gloom person but come on. you make it sound like we all need to be armed to the teeth because something might happen. It woudl be liek having sex but nvere being able to finish. Even if you do stay alert every day you wont be alert forever eventually what happens is you lax up and then when its time to act youre caught with your D**k in your hand. Sorry I guess I dotn feel any reason to be strapped with guns when Im at home. Not saying I dont have one within reach but I dont feel the need to be armed wherever I am. i guess since my house is a weird configuration it gives me plenty of time. besides nobody comes to my house unanounced.
but to sit here and say that holy crap pathetic cops couldnt get there within 5 seconds of the gurl calling the 911 operator is really sad. Ok so these people were unarmed. You cant protect against crazy. Even if you had a gun HOW do you know the person who had it would be able to use it. having a gun in the house and even having it on someo0nes person does not necessarily mean it woudl get used or used correctly
If you were at a family dinner and uncle joe walked in and started popping family members with a AK i bet you woudnt have enough time to draw your gun before he popped a few in you. part of it woudl be because you woudl be caught off guard the other woudl be the time it took to registed what is actually happening. Easy to say i woudl do this and that unless youve faced that. not saying I have been in the suituation mentioned above so i woudlnt know how I woudl act. Nobody knows you can THINK how you will act but you dont knowLast edited by Rob454; 12-27-2008, 8:53 PM.Comment

It's tragic, but this is the reason I have a gun within easy reach at all times. My wife doesn't gripe about it anymore.sigpic
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined, nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
