AR15, Piston vs Direct Impingement: An observation.

^^ Thank you for your post.Ok, ill take the troll bait, only to point out the troll bait.
Has nothing to do with piston vs DI. Sounds more like low vs high quality.
You said their were 30 guys in the class and 6-8 DI guns having problems. Were you there with 22 friends with piston guns? Or were there some DI guns that didn't have any problems either?
This is why I laugh when people claim reliability after "ran 300 rounds at the range an no problems".
I did not want to say anything. Tired of reading B.S. especially from someone with over 2K in posts and still writes a paragraph like he is drunk. People who B.S. usually ramble words without knowing/realizing that the detail of what they spew does not match right.Comment

I suspect home built guns, froglube, or weak ammo could be some of the causes. I previously owned one of the original pws piston ar's and while nice, really did nothing special over the di version. Instead of cleaning the bcg u had to clean the piston.Comment

Great link, but....Enough information here for me never to buy a piston setup
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...-rental-range/
seems like the least relevant type of info for anyone EXCEPT a "high volume range" where the range provides all guns and flogs those guns far beyond even the most extreme military use.
I'm not gonna care what a long haul trucking fleet manager says about tires when I'm buying tires for my next motorcycle race.Comment

If the OP's experience was the same for all DI guns, we'd have a whole lot more dead servicemen in every conflict we've fought. There would be a huge outcry from military's around the world over a 20% failure rate in adverse conditions.
Those students were running absolute garbage and/or never cleaned and lubed their weapons if the OP is telling the truth."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

Good info. Interesting that the PSA uppers are performing as well as the LMT's and Daniel Defense's. That mirrors my experience.Enough information here for me never to buy a piston setup

QUOTE-
The range masters changed a few gas blocks and rebuilt a few BCG's
OP-
What class?
I have attended a decent amount of courses.....across a number of schools....
I have seen all sorts of firearms break.... but never an instructor rebuild a BCG....
What school? Website?Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
