Discharging a firearm, no matter what type of ammunition is being used, is considered deadly force.

The standard to determine if using deadly force is justified is applied to both less-lethal and lethal ammunition.

Also, it's important to note that Bean Bag rounds are extremely inaccurate when compared to shot and slugs. The Bean Bag shape just was designed to travel well at ballistic velocities. I've seen them fired at 15 yards and miss the point of aim by a good five feet.

+1 They drop quite a bit and IMO 15 yards is the max limit of their usefulness.

Beanbag rounds are merely a curiosity. They lose speed, and impact velocity so fast you have to be point blank when you fire one and be effective.

Now, if you take a fired beanbag and plop it into a 3inch magnum case.... now you're taking!

I have some that a cop buddy gave me. I don't plan on using them but it's a nice option to have. But remember dead men tell no tales... .

They work great for dissuading various vermin from hanging around my property. Just don't hit a skunk with one unless the wind is blowing towards a neighbor that you don't particularly care for.

I've seen skunks get shot with pellet guns. They don't spray. In fact they didn't seem to care they were getting shot.

Even cops don't use rubber slugs or bean bags without having both their own sidearm AND backup with live ammo at the ready.
