Better AK 74 variant.

Two part question.
What is in your personal experiences a better AK74 variant...Arsenal, Saiga, Century.
There's a complete Bulgarian 74 kit with all matching numbers for sale on here for 550. Would that be a good way to go and send of to a reputable smith to assemble?

All my AKs are kit builds on Nodak receivers.. All flawless and each one unique in it's own way.
One of them a Bulgarian ((10)) unissued kit. Probably my best looking piece.

I'll take the Pepsi challenge with anything Century built.

best on the market is the Bulgarian SLR series but those are unavailable in CA. Russian SGL is next best, then Saiga.

Kit or rifle?

SLRs are banned by name in CA, next best thing (or on par) is the Russian SGL series of 74 type rifles.

Does the kit include a barrel? Is the barrel US made or Bulgarian?

$550 is a lot for a kit. IIRC Arms of America has them for $330ish

If it's a matching Bulgarian kit with barrel, it's a good deal. If it's an original barrel, it's a very good deal.

depends on barrel's origin; if it's US made its not a good deal, if it's com bloc, then it's a good deal.
