I've used car wax on my 870 but just on the wood. For the rust on the barrel i use hops #9 with 000 steel wool. Put new life into my 870.

That's a polish, he's looking to protect the finish, not polish it.My advise to you is Flitz gun polish.
it's here http://www.walmart.com/ip/Flitz-4280...OTTLE/40312162..
You are welcome.
The point is to prevent the rust in the first place.Comment

Ren Wax seems to be the wax of choice on the S&W forum and those guys are pretty serious about preservation. Supposedly it's a favorite with museums as well.
The thing I would watch out for with ordinary car wax is that it doesn't have a "cleaner" AKA abrasive in it."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.

After reading this thread, I ordered the Renaissance wax (on sale on Amazon) and boiled linseed oil. I sprayed my wood stock with M-Pro 7 and the wood looked a little dried out. So I applied Weapon Shield on it, but the wood just sucked it up. I'm hoping the combination of linseed oil and renaissance wax will bring back the shine.

I have a bunch of shop equipment in my garage with Nate metal surfaces. Table saws, drill presses etc. I can vouch for Johnson paste wax.
Brush it on lightly, let it dry and buff with a fine cloth.Comment

Started using Corrosion-X on my Saltwater fishing reels & gear and it basically ended any problems with corrosion. Figured if it worked that well on my fishing gear, why not try it on my blued firearms.
Trust me and try it - I don't think there's a better product out there for keeping corrosion at bay.Originally posted by Sierra57Civil War 2.0 - If it comes to pass, the America-hating Leftists will have brought it upon themselves. FWIW...I use both Flitz and Mother's.My advise to you is Flitz gun polish.
it's here http://www.walmart.com/ip/Flitz-4280...OTTLE/40312162..
You are welcome.
Applying equal pressure using either a cotton swab or 100% cotton towel, Flitz is weaker then Mother's (which is a good thing). Less prone to over-polish when using Flitz. On the flip side, I think Mother's offers a better shine with chrome (and is much less expensive)..
