I wear a full kydex suit of armor at all times of the day. The vital areas are reinforced with AR500 steel, but the rest keeps me fairly knife proof just in case I am attacked by y'all queda agents.

plus it makes me look like batman......

I would, but for me, I'd have to put three of them.

get some old football pants and pads, shave 1/2" off the outside of the pads and glue and mummy wrap some steel or kevlar and insert the pads.

Don't forget the hip and tail bone pads that ride on a belt.

You SHOULD be able to get nicely worn practice equip from some local HS or college, except any such program would no doubt never allow casual sales of the equip and will be like dealing with DoD, even a private HS or college.

And don't forget the cast iron jock strap cup insert.

But I think standard PRACTICE gear (not game day colors) should be sturdy enough to hold the extra weight all nice and snug to your body and allow you to still run nicely, just a bit more work.

Who knows, maybe I just invented the next training craze.

OH, I guess you can buy them in my size for reasonable price without needing to buy a whole team's worth.http://www.amazon.com/Rawlings-F4500.../dp/B001H54S1Y

Maybe take that story about the guy saved by the Bible in his chest pocket a few steps further. Carry all kinds of tacticool mall ninja stuff in all sorts of tacticool and mall ninja hidden pockets of your lycra compression long pants and long shirt. Mags, throwing knives, throwing stars of diff sizes and types could be combined and positioned for pretty good coverage.

Too bulky for movement and gets in your way during fire movement. Also, when you are carrying close to 60 to 100lbs of combat load. You do not want to carry more weights that might hinder your movement even more.

I feel sorry for MP's , they spend long time outside the wires.I was assigned to them for one month .

I always figured its because the vest and helmet are used to protect vital organs. No vital organs in the arms and legs which also need to be freed up to move about . . . That is what I think why at least.

Storm troopers have them. They are stuck to the spandex underneath with velcro.

Reminds me of the old joke: "It took men 100 years to start wearing helmets in hockey and football, yet they started wearing cups immediately. It shows where our priorities are."

If your important parts are protected, you can do without the rest.
