    LCP magazine problems

I looked for this in the forums with no luck, sorry if this is a duplicate.

Today I was shooting my Ruger LCP and was having problems with my magazine ejecting after I fired a round. It wasn't happening on every shot but it happened to both my father and myself (same gun). Has anyone had the same problems and or have any recommendations?

    Thanks

Yes it seems to be both of my magazines, might need to by a new mag and see if it happens with that as well

Is it perhaps how you are gripping the gun? There's not a whole lot of real estate on that tiny pistol.

by the way it's an awesome pistol for conceal carry and it's very accurate.

Oh, no question it's a great gun. It's my wife's EDC!
Not a particularly fun range gun, but absolutely perfect for concealed carry!

Are you saying they don't drop free when you hit the mag release or what?

There are no problems when I eject the magazine but when I fire a round every so often the magazine will pop free and I will need to reseat it

Try a spot of lube on the mag release?

Is your lcp a gen 2? I have a gen 2 lcp an I have noticed that the floor plate of the magazine is a little too thick and inhibits the user from easily seating the magazine. So you can insert the mag into the mag well and think that it is properly seated, but it is not. I have read that some people remove the floor plate of the magazine and sand it down to reduce the thickness. Then when the mag is inserted there is a small gap between the mag floor plate and the bottom of the grip, which allows the mag to seat with less force. Apparently, this is only a problem with the gen 2 lcp, the 1st gen lcp does not have this problem.

When I seat my mag on my gen 2 lcp, I have to push on the front of the mag where the finger extension is to get it to seat properly.

Not sure if this is your problem, but I have heard of this issue from a couple of lcp gen 2 owners.

                      Good Luck!!

This was true for me. Every mag I got for my LCP I removed a little material from the top of the base plate. When I got them if you pushed towards the front of the base plate to seat it seamed to rock in and catch fine but if you pushed more straight up it would stay in place but not quite latch all the way. I found it only needed a little material removed in the middle section were it contacts the grip and the front and back seemed to be fine, I think I remember it being more of a problem with the flat base plates than the extended.

When I put a mag into my LCP (Gen2) I give it a good tap on the bottom. It does seem to take a little force to seat it. It's a good little gun for pocket carry, but I have not been impressed with the quality of the overall gun. I carry my P238 in it's place now.

I've had mag problems with these as I had to give them a good slap to get them to seat. No problem from the ruger 7 rd ext grip one. They pop right in, go figure.

Have not had this issue with my LCP. I'm using a Garrison grip mag extensions and a CT trigger guard Laser to increase the overall size of the weapon and get a better register. It's still fits in my back pocket.
