If they are long arms, why would they be registered? who would know that you have them?

Knowing persons who work in storage, the purchaser of the storage space takes possession of all the real property in the space, but not photos, personal papers and legal documents. But is something such as a firearm considered real property? Assault weapons according to state law cannot be transferred, so you should not be able to take possession (ownership). Handguns are usually registered to a specific person as well. The closest analog would be a car that is registered to a specific person. To sell those at auction requires the specific car to be publicized for sale. If the firearm(s) were not specifically advertised, it may not be considered a valid transfer of property from one person to another. You may need to advertise that you are taking possession of the specific items, or you may be covered by the storage facilities advertisement.

A person whose space was sold at auction went after the buyer because he claimed there was multiple firearms in the space. All I know is the buyer was going to the cops on that issue. Never heard of the conclusion.

See, you really need to talk to a lawyer to cover your behind if something goes wrong. Spend $1,000 now or maybe $10,000 later on court costs. Just getting a written advice of a lawyer and having it on record can save you later. You can prove you did not decide on your own, but got legal advice on handling the situation. Especially if they are later reported as stolen.

This can get even more difficult as if you purchase the lot, you may then need to get them processed by an FFL to take legal possession. Or, as you just became a firearms dealer, by that purchase, you can be prosecuted as an illegal gun dealer. (Need to ensure none of them are stolen property.)

Talk to a lawyer. Maybe two or three. Preferably one knowledgeable about firearms, property, and storage rental laws.

And I am not a lawyer.

And this thread should probably be over in the 2nd Am, Politics and Laws section.
I don't care what you call me, just don't call me late for dinner. Stupid Idiot will suffice, after all, it's only words.

You must define something before you can understand it.

          Are you in CA?

I don't know how you guys expect anyone on here to help you with know anything about the situation...
It seems to me like the guy is asking for general information about firearms one comes by inadvertently. All those specifics shouldn't be necessary.

I've scored free ammo from people that have found it in auction lockers
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.
