The question appears to by hypothetical.

In the general case of going to a public storage place and buying the contents of an abandoned storage unit; what are the procedures for taking legal possession for any types of firearms included in the sale?

that would be sooooo cool. even if you couldnt keep them, stop by the range before surrendering to the SS of kalifornistan.

When I went bidding on storage sheds it was required that any drugs and firearms be turned over to the police. Not sure if there is a law or just policy.

If you do find one :
it could be clean so no problem later
it could be stolen big problem later
it could been in a major crime bigger problem later.

                take your choice.

                    that's an interesting question
its different from the usual finding a gun question because you are actually the owner as long as they are not stolen

Real answers on how to interpret the law and stay legal come from lawyers. I'd consult a professional if you can't get a concise answer from here to your satisfaction.

Get the contents first and worry about figuring how to get them legal later at your own storage facility... That is what I would do anyway. You bought the contents...

So is this a hypothetical or did you buy a shed with firearms ?
