    Building an AK-74

So my friend and I want to work on building an OLL AK-74 (5.45x39) but we are having a hard time trying to discern the best parts kits, receivers, etc.

Who makes the best receivers and where can I find decent quality and decently priced parts kits?

I wish Saiga made a 5.45x39 rifle, dammit!

Saiga does, they just don't import them.

Can't go wrong with a Bulgarian 74 and an NDS-2 receiver.

I went with the fixed wood stock, but in hind sight I wish I would have gotten a triangle folder when the price difference was relatively small.

I love it though. My kit came unfired from the factory. I got my NDS-2 serial number matched to the rest of the kit. After building the receiver I had it parked, then after finishing the gun the receiver was refinished in GunKote. It matches the paint of the Bulgy parts perfectly.

It's my second favorite rifle out of all I own. The first being my first Romy G flat-build that runs like a top and I abuse the heck out of.

Get a Bulgy whilest you can. And a Polish Tantal. I should have my complete rifle (from a Bulgy kit) within the next couple of days and will post pictures to tease you.

Tantal kits are a lot cheaper. I'd suggest that you build on a regular AK-74 receiver and omit the left side selector because it serves no purpose and takes up the space where the optics rail would go.

I also wished there was a Saiga in 5.45x39mm.
