I'm in the same boat. Did a form for a gifted 38 and it took 4-6 weeks to get the letter back. I mailed another form out for my moms glock 19 over 2 months ago. I plan on putting the 19 on my Ccw app.

You are describing the Federal 4473 process (kept on file at the LGS) combined with the old (pre-2014) process for long guns (NICS then delete). Not quite sure that is correct. It's my understanding (someone please jump in) that the DROS information is transmitted to the CA DOJ at time of sale for the NICS process. The CA DOJ is supposed to (key word) delete this information after a short period of time (not sure how long) and the permanent record of the sale (DROS) is kept forever with the LGS. If/when the LGS closes shop permanently, CA gets the all DROSes at that point.
As of 2014, long guns and handguns are treated the same: buyer name and info, and gun make, model, serial, caliber info is submitted to DOJ via the DROS process, where it is kept in the AFS system forever.
Before 2014, it was just handgun info submitted in detail.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment
