Most Heavily Armed States

I call BS, the most heavily armed State is the State with the most individuals who can carry a gun.
Having 10 handguns / rifles does a single individual no good against 10 people with a handgun or rifle. Heck you can't even carry all the weaponry.
Now there are those who have a fair number of firearms who can lend them those who do not in many, many families.Spreading the WORD according to COLT. and Smith, Wesson, Ruger, HK, Sig, High Standard, Browning

Those numbers have to be wrong.
Where are they getting the numbers of "registered firearms?" Only six states have registration. The numbers are also insanely low. Some of those states have more CCW permits than "registered guns" going off the numbers presented in the article. If we have 300 million guns in this country, which is number often put out by both sides of the issue, how can the most heavily armed state have a gun ownership rate of 10%? The math just doesn't work out. I think the writer is probably 'tarded.
I'm thinking these might be NFA items as that is the only way they can get info on actual registered items for all 50 states. For Sale: Off Roster Handgun Moving Sale

This is not a very well researched news piece.
All the authors did was find the number of registered firearms in a state and the then divided into the population.
Since the various states have differing standards for registration, and because many of the states permit the ownership of unregistered firearms, and apply different standards for the registration of firearms, you really cannot draw any conclusions as a result of this "study".
Junk reporting at its best.
Given the strong restrictions that the District of Columbia imposes upon its citizenry, I find it very hard to believe that they're the second-most heavily armed in the nation. Methinks that nearly all of their "registered" firearms are institutionally registered to federal agencies. That doesn't support the conclusion made by CBS.If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.Comment

As already noted, the numbers are very questionable, and no conclusion outside the specific data can be supported.
Latest guess is about 320 or so million firearms in 'civilian' hands in the US. Nobody has any idea who has them at any level more granular than 'United States'.
Whatever today's number of Calguns members might be, I don't think that's an accurate number of gun owners just on this site.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

OK, now I KNOW the "research" they used is shoddy, because I live in Virginia (#5 on their list). They spoke of, "248,939 registered firearms", which is BS. Why is it BS? Because Virginia doesn't have a firearms registry, that's why! This ain't California, folks, and except for NFA items, we don't play that here.
That said, Virginia certainly has a well-armed population, generally, and I consider that to be a good thing."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

Registered firearms only......that's like reporting on the number of illegal aliens based on the number of visa's issued that have expired.
They say 292,877 in California. I'd wager that the active members of CalGuns (26,402) have close to, if not more than that among ourselves.
Congrats Kes, looks like every firearm owner in Ca is a member of CalGuns!

NICS check numbers can be quite misleading as well. Some NICS checks by state. Some good data if one is curious.
Did you know that their are only14,012,277 prohibited persons in the country. Seems low to me.
https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ni...nics-index.pdf
1. Most states allow private sales, no NICS check involved.
2. CCW holders in many states are exempt from a NICS check when buying from a dealer.
3. When a person buys multiple guns at the same time, only one NICS is done.
4. A couple of states run NICS on every CCW holder in the state every month."Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook PeglerComment
