I say YES! Live Pay Per View rematch pending. LOL

As for myself for pistol and rifle:

Mechanically yes | yes. All it takes for me is either curiosity or being visually shown once for tear down and put it all together for whichever weapon system I can get my hands on once then doing tear down and make whole then performing functionality test on my own.

Marksman(not bullseye shooter) For pistol, yes on paper and steel up to about 32 yards. Whatever walks on 2 legs or more unknown as have yet to be in that situation yet but I'm prepared when the time comes. Rifle, yes on paper, steel, and things that move on 2 to 4 legs up to 200 yards.

Defense/tactical yes | yes but more so with rifles due to being down range. I still like to check out as much courses I financially can though as that helps me adapt and improve on what I currently know.

On a on the move type situation I suck ! With my hand guns I suck! I guess I am admitting that I bought firearms solely on the purpose of buying everything before they banned what I wanted. I need to use my firearms more frequently and learn proper techniques from real people " not youtube videos " . How many other Calguns members can admit the same ?

What kind of training classes have you had?

I would probably "suck" at driving if I had only ever watched youtube videos of other people driving. Instead of having actual class, where an experienced person could call me out on what I'm doing wrong, misunderstanding, etc. People seem to not mind spending hundreds or thousands on new guns or ammo. But then balk at $500 for a REAL class with pros who can help them build skill that will benefit ALL those firearms out on the range. Practicing bad habits at the range that you don't realize are bad, doesn't build skill and just reinforces bad technique.

Get REAL training, then practice the skills you learn. Anything else is just a waste of ammo.

I can hit the steel with my Glock 23 almost every time at the range between 7-25 yards, with the few exceptions of the swinging targets still swinging while I try a follow up shot. If the didn't swing id hit them. Not as accurate passed 25 yards yet but I'm working on it. With the AR though, at 25-100 yards in usually between 80-90%. In a stressful situation I hope I can do the same

Come to think of it I should probably start practicing stressful situations..

Proficient? Depends on the definition. I used to compete in International Rapid and was a LOT better than I am now interms of speed and accuracy, by my definition. Ah, age takes it's toll. But people at the range are usually impressed, on the rare condition when I can find a range to shoot rapid fire at in California. That being said, ALL practice is beneficial. The more variety of practice and the more varied the conditions the better, but the more you handle any tool the more comfortable you will be with it. And you can incorporate some tactical training even in a standard range. For instance: All empties hit the ground, don't get in the habit of catching brass or magazines. Most ranges will let you pull mags or speedloaders from belt gear even if they won't let you draw from the holster. Most cubicals are large enough to make a small step right or left when you begin firing (have your partner call the direction). And you can number multi spot targets and have a partner call numbers. And one of my favorites: Have your partner hit the return and call the timing for the shot. Obvious good tactical training is the best, but you can be resourceful and use what you have.

100%. If I buy something new, I learn about it extensively to be 100%.

^^^^ Good post, and pretty much how I feel.

I can confidently say this, in the summer of '96 I leveled my 357 mag at an intruder who had broken into my garage at about 2:30am. I practiced proper trigger discipline, and firmly held my front sight squarely at the middle of his chest while ordering him to stop. My adrenaline was pumping, but I had the presence of mind to illuminate my target, identify my target, acquire him in my sights, and not do anything stupid.

The guy had popped open my small garage door and was standing no more than ten or twelve feet from me facing me when I turned on the garage lights. He turned and bolted out of there and ran to the left and hopped over my cross street neighbors fence and disappeared.

I'm not the most accurate shot with any of my firearms, but I know I handled myself well at least once when it counted.

I'm down for a PPV rematch! Of course I want to be paid a goodly sum just for appearance fees!

As for firearm proficiency, while I have never shot in sponsored competition, and have never been under severe or life and death pressure, when it comes to poking holes in paper or hitting steel, I do pretty well. I've had help improving over the years, and helped others improve. I'm still working on 25+ yards (wth a handgun), decent from shorter distances. With rifles I can ring steel at a fair distance, although I have never really had the chance to test myself at long range (+200 yards).

So I would call myself proficient. If push comes to shove, I can put rounds on target. Hopefully I won't ever be forced into that situation.

In addition to being proficient, I consider myself to be a safe gun owner. I always attempt to adhere to the rules of firearm safety and when not actually holding a gun in my hands, I attempt to keep an eye on those around me to ensure the same. Mostly for my own benefit, but if I can help someone else, or possibly avert some tragic accident...
                        Sorry, not sorry.

I can clean, disassemble, and reassemble my small assortment of rifle, shotgun, and handgun.
I handle all my firearms in a safe manner and have never had a negligent discharge.
I do know the limits of accuracy of each of my firearms and of myself with each firearm.
I constantly strive to improve on my accuracy under varying conditions.
I've recently taken up reloading as ammunition is part of shooting and firearms.
I consider myself to be of average proficiency.

here's an example of my shooting groups at 20 yards...one with my Px4, one with my Browning Hi-Power, both 9mm...good tight groupings, seldom out of the red

now below, at 21 yards it changes a bit...so, if you're breaking into my house, my advice would be to stay at least 21 yards away

Back in the late 70's, I went to this sort of "camp" in San Diego. Got free haircuts, some nice tactical clothing, boots, and an M-16A1. There were all kinds of classes. Fired Expert on the metric KD range, so I guess I was proficient.

My Dad raised me with guns and I still put a lot of lead downrange, and am happiest with tight groups or single ragged holes.

I consider myself both proficient and prepared. But that is a self assessment.
