I had an ER Physician tell me today that he was vehemently against firearms. I asked him why and his response was, "Guns put holes in people and we have to fix them up."
I asked him if it was any different than having to fix up other major trauma wounds such as blunt force or blade wounds. He said, "Guns make holes in people and cause more damage and they have the potential to kill people."
I told him, "So do knives and blunt weapons. Firearms are equalizers against criminals with these weapons. What would you do if someone came at you with a knife?"
He said, "Even if I had a gun, I'd never shoot them because I've seen what gun shot wounds do to people."
I said, "I've seen what criminals do to people regardless of the weapon involved. You're not going to defend yourself?"
He said, "No, I'm anti-gun and I'd never shoot them. I'd just run away."
I said, "You're not going to get away from a criminal that's intent on doing you harm let alone one that's hopped up on drugs."
He said, "That just means I need to work out more."
Me, ". . . [Pause] I sincerely hope you survive that encounter and not be damaged to the point where you can't work out more. Good luck with that. . ."
I walked away in disgust. Dear gawd. This is the mindset of the country.
