It happens. I don't see what the issue is, aside from the fact of the theft itself.

120 rounds of ammunition? Geez, who would have thought cops needed so much ammunition!

The issue for me is how a few Calguns members have had LEOs tell them that they should sell their guns because they "might get stolen."

First report said it was a single shot rifle...I thought hmm.. it must be a pump shotgun..single shot?,,no way.

Second report says it was a COLT Sportster, H-bar...Why didn't they describe it as an Evil Black Rifle or assault weapon...or weapon of war?

Seems like the CHP might have egg on their face to have let such a "dangerous weapon" get into the hands of a criminal.

The CHP Colt semi-auto I inspected last year was a re-barreled Vietnam era surplus M16 with it's full auto parts removed and a 20 round magazine. When I asked the CHP officer why he didn't have a more modern M4 style configured weapon he stated they were concerned it would give them a 'bad look'

Interesting how the Chronicle calls an AR-15 stolen from the CHP a semiautomatic rifle but a similar semiautomatic rifle stolen from a civilian or used in a crime would undoubtedly be reported as an assault weapon.

Bad news for the CHiPers. Wonder why the thief didn't grab the shotgun too.

i was just reading this on sf gate.

completely agree. i love how they say rifle and ammo stolen in the headlines.

ASSAULT WEAPON STOLEN FROM HIGHWAY PATROL just doesnt have the same ring to it.

The officer I saw interviewed this morning went to great pains to refer to it as a "single-shot rifle, not fully automatic or burst". I did think that was funny since it's clearly a semi-automatic and when a "regular" person has one it magically becomes an assault rifle.

I'll bet it was a two person crew. One went into the station with a big box of donuts which kept them busy for awhile and the other was getting away with the goods!

Silly ...but that is how the news is in any form, print TV etc...

Someone should do a story in the paper or something online news source to talk of this...!!
