    10+1 mag

Question on the "10+1" magazines I've seen advertised with purchase of certain handgun models by manufacturers.
I'm looking to buy my first handgun and I'd like to get as much capacity allowable under CA law and wondering if I buy a handgun (with a 10+1 magazine) online to have shipped here (Ventura county), are these magazines legal in CA? Is the manufacturer actually referring to the "10+1" as a 10 round mag plus one in the gun chamber? (which would be legal)

Or are they trying to get around the law by selling an 11 round mag? (would that be a legal workaround of the words of the law?)

Thanks for the input as I'm trying to define what's actually allowable under the law's wording.

Everytime I have seen capacity listed as "X+1" it means the magazine holds X number of rounds plus 1 in the chamber. A "10+1" is legal in California since it is a 10 round magazine.

As to the ordering a handgun online, make sure it is listed exactly by model/SKU on the roster: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/
Also double check that the seller is willing to send it to California, not all are because of the extra paperwork and headaches from our state.

        The PC is
16740. As used in this part, “large-capacity magazine” means any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to include any of the following: ...
'10 + 1" is more than 10, but as already noted, that advertising copy is magazine + chamber.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Even though most guns will list "10+1" capacity meaning chamber a round, top off the mag, reinsert. But you would not believe how many magazines (many factory mags) which would not do this. The "fit" of the rounds is so tight that with 10 rounds in, the mag can not be inserted into the gun with the slide closed.

So take the "10 + 1" with a grain of salt until you veriify it.

just seconding the previous statements .. 10+1 is the CA firearm capacity = 1 in the chamber and 10 in the mag. If you're looking at mag advertisements they'll say 10 rounds. If you're looking at gun advertisements they're saying 10+1

Yeah after going back and reading it said "capacity". Funny because some other models or brands don't use the same terminology. Confusing

I have never seen a magazine sold as "10 + 1." The gun's capacity, if listed as 10 + 1, means it comes with a 10 round magazine.

Eh. A while back I asked if anyone knew if midway riveted or glued their mags. The reason being was because I was buying online, with a credit card, and I wanted to make damn sure they were legal, under any interpretation of the law. But I got generally the same reaction as this. Sometimes people really do just have simple questions to ask.

yep, guns sold (in any state) are sold as X+1 are X in the mag and 1 in the pipe.

Being a first time buyer of handguns, and living in CA, I wanted to make sure that when I buy a gun it's allowable since many websites charge a "restocking fee" for returns if you goof up on your understanding of your state's laws.

If you are brand new to guns, I suggest taking a basic pistol course. Welcome to CG.
