The other older skinnier white guy, not as tall as another offender though is a pleasant fellow.
i don't think i've seen an older fat white guy working there as of late.

the skinnier older white guy's usually the guy jumping on people for rapid fire, but is otherwise pretty civil.

I was told they do allow JHP **IF** you can shoot right.

The last time I was there maybe 8-9 months ago (I live in L.A.) some idiot down the lane was firing JHP and apparently missing or hitting the frames, occasionally knocking jacket chunks our way. I got tagged, and my buddy got tagged int he arm too- no blood, but it didn't feel nice.

I think as long as you don't MISS, and they know you can shoot, they'll leave you alone. The range guys were always nice to me.

Will Insight allow the use of an 9mm OLL build?

Just checkin for anyone who has used one there.

I guess I can always call them up and find out.

I believe pistol caliber carbines are okay. Call them first, but I don't see why not.

I actually worked for mike for a month or so a few months back....that ended when a DOJ guy came in to inspect a gun we had taken in for a PPT and found out i wasnt 21 yet, i guess he hassled mike about it since its mainly a pistol range.

Its a great place, for the most part its alot better with the type of people that show up to shoot. Most of the rules are there because the city regulations not by choice. Their backstop was changed because of it, and is rated for rifle rounds, but city regulations limit it to 44 magnum max within city limits for the range.

They do allow pistol caliber carbines, i used to shoot the thompson i was testing my maglock for there, and they rent a PC-4, i also used to shoot the PS-90 there as well.
We're not done yet, we're not going quietly. We'll win in the end.

Decent range, it has it's pros and cons just like Sharpshooters.

pros= staff generally ok, not very personable at times kinda like old owner, not very good with people skills at times, common with hobby businesses/gun shops. I have ran into Gun Worlds magazines editor, Jan Libourel there 2x which was nice.

Decent hours, pistol caliber carbines up to 44mag ok. I thinh JHP ok. I don't think FMJ .22lr is required, thats basically a collectors item, they mean the copper washed variety easily available I'd say.

Cons= no rapid fire if thats you thing, if you want to shoot a shotgun you have to buy their very overpriced birdshot,$5 for 10 rounds. It's close to some very bad areas of Artesia and Norwalk but they don't have as much gang element as Sharpshooters attracts.

Sharpshooters pros= They sell more guns, the Kimber pricing used to be ok. Shotguns allowed at all time with your own ammo ok. Rapid fire ok. I think .500S&W ok but check on that.

Cons= Some of the help has a rep of very poor attitudes, I don't hardly shoot there due to one of them.(not Fred) Kind of run down. Lots of novices and seedier element. prices went up drastically from when older ownership was there. They do give you a free bullseye target or two though unlike Insites which has expensive targets IMHO.

Both are much better than LAX range pricing, gun inspections, parking, gang element though IMHO.

what rimfire ammo do they allow ive never seen a fmj 22LR
they are all just dusted with a bit of copper or brass

i guess the best way is to ask what 22 they sell to use at the range?

its quite a bummer how about shotguns? i guess you could use them sabot slugs

They don't make FMJ .22lr ammo generally. IIRC some was made for US survival rifles to conform to Hague convention. No slugs. You have to buy their overpriced birdshot shells.

The lead bullet hate here is strange regardless of it's theirs or Artesias fault. It doesn't have to be Total Metal Jacketed ammo ot non lead cores. You are still being exposed to lead at the firing point. I do admit though that lead bullet lube is annoying when it's being fired.

Another reason I'm still forced to go to Sharpshooter's sometimes is that affordable .44spl and .45lc ammo is generally found in a all lead format.

Just thought about this too, birdshot they sold me last time was Wolf, thats not plated birdshot IIRC. Fiocchi and others do make nickel or copper plated shot though.

Unless Insight has improved their ventilation, this is probably a great thing for them.

I went there last year trying to introduce the new wife to shooting on what was to be her second range session. Just opening the inner door we were hit with the awful air quality which didn't bode too well for generating much enthusiasm for a new shooter. We lasted about 50 rnds, then had to bail as we couldn't take it anymore. Seriously, the coughing lasted into the evening and I swore never to return to that stenchole unless I'd heard some changes were made.

The defunct JRs range in Long Beach was really bad with this too. Sharpshooters can get a little bad but it's tolerable. Can't say i've had an issue with it at Insights. Usually my issues are more temperature related at a range. I hear it's hard to A/C a range and ventilate it also.
