    Insight Gun Range

I went to Insight Gun range on this past Friday and noticed a sign that said Jacketed Bullets only. No Lead . I reload and find that this would be an added cost to me to reload jacketed bullets. I noticed he sells jacketed bullets for reloading there and I hope he would sell them at a discount. Maybe Sharpshooters is not a bad idea after all since they like lead!

I do know that a lot of ranges are selective with what they will allow, and the rules they have do not always follow common sense. Some outdoor ranges will not allow steel core ammo because of a fire hazard of the steel striking rocks. Some will not allow steel jackets for the same reason, and they check with magnets.

In looking for an indoor range, I called one (maybe Iinsight?) and they said full metal jackets only, even on .22s. I am not about to hunt down full metal jacketed .22 to shoot there. I think most ranges just want to sell stuff.

Blame the City, The range actually used to allow all kinds of stuff, 50cal pistols, lead etc. Problem is that when they changed ownership a bit ago the city of Artesia clamped down on them (50 cal is dangerous, lead is bad for environment etc. we all know the story). Artesia had a problem going after the original owners as they were there for years but once new owners took over they got jumped on and understandibly don't want to pay the resources to take the city to court over this.

I'm pretty sure that the no-lead restriction is to reduce the amount of lead that gets broken up and pumped into the air at the range. Or at least, that that's the theory behind it.

La Puente Firing Range is the same. They inspect all your ammo beforehand. FMJ only. La Puente used to be kinda nice, but lots of stupid cholos go there and shoot gangsta style (holding sideways, lots of rounds, no aiming. The staff are pretty cool, but sometimes there are some know-it-alls that spout false info. I like Insight though.

When did the ownership of Insight change? That's my favorite indoor range.

Mike and Family purchased it around August. Jack just had enough. It is still nice but jacketed bullets cost around 10 bucks more. I see Berrys does not charge shipping, maybe this is the way to go!
BTW I normally shoot there on Friday AM, if I am off from work

theres a difference between no lead and jacketed.

I think insight has a steel backstop/bullet trap system. I can tell you that jacketed will expose just as much lead as a pure lead round.

Usually the full metal jacket only rule is to prevent splash back from hollow points fragmenting against the backstop, however lead rounds are also safe to use on these types of ranges.

insight just recently changed out the back stop. it's the rubber chunk type now.

and alot of thier requirments are because of the city, not because mike wants it that way.

So insight doesn't allow JHP anymore? I remember them saying it was okay a while ago.

i just went there sunday afternoon, never seen the new backstop 'till now. that said, i've never seen them bother anyone for any reason but rapid firing and unsafe handling.

Yup they never do bother anyone. If you do use lead watch out for the lube on the bullets, they sort of smoke and I don't want to get Mike in trouble with the city. I am still going to get some jacketed to shoot, but still have some lead to shoot.

Is Fred a white overweight man that has white to grey hair thinning? Don't know his name but besides distance this person is a major factor in me not shooting there any more in preference to Insights. If Insights is much stricter in ammo types now though some of my business might shift back to Torrance.

The other older skinnier white guy, not as tall as another offender though is a pleasant fellow.
