    Insurance

Looking for suggestions on the best place to have my guns insured and maybe add liability coverage as well. Looked into adding onto homeowners but seemed rather expensive. I am sure there are some better options out there...

    Suggestions are appreciated.

If you are a homeowner, talk to your agent. They may have riders to attach to your homeowner's policy. Know this: Your homeowners policy does not cover your firearms or your wife's expensive jewelry. You need to add coverage for those.

I checked and you are right but the figures they gave me were not. That is why I am looking for other options.

Did you search? This question comes up once or twice a month. NRA and CollectInsur usually come up as the top two with regards to cost. I've got CollectInsur and am happy with them.

I have used these guys for about five years now. Very reasonable rates.

They don't require serial numbers or an appraisal unless an individual firearm is valued over $10,000.00.

Sort of; if you only have a few guns or lower values overall. It's pedestrian and basic - definitely not the best place for insurance and the rate available from Chubb (through Eastern Insurance) is better than that which can be had from NRA's ArmsCare once you start talking higher numbers.

                    Try here:

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

Not an automatic "this" - see above.

And there is a reason it's free; because it's not the best coverage going. Keep in mind, the "NRA" is not an insurance company; they partnered with something in the way of low-hanging fruit attractive enough to offer members that own just a couple of guns, and the insurance company itself uses it as a loss-leader for the lower-tier member needs as a marketing tool to get to the higher-need members - but it's not the best available.

I added a "sporting goods" or something like that extention to my policy. Up to 20k for a bit over $200 a year. I have state farm.
