Why is .22 still nuts?

I have 2 walmarts within 5 miles of me. I live near a retiree community of over 100,000 residents. The odds are against me unless I show up at the ammo case before 6am and wait until 7am.
It is the same 6-12 guys though. They all have each others phone numbers and plan out who goes to which of the 3 closest Walmarts each day.sigpic

Yep^^^^Manufacturers realized that with a smaller supply they could change more and maintain an equal profit margin with less output.
Once everybody gets completely used to paying .10 per round, they'll ramp production up again and still keep the price at .10. .08 for Black Friday and "special" deal sales, increasing profit dramatically.
I miss the days of <.03 per round.
I seriousy don't think we will ever see 5 cents a round again.
10 cents will be the new baseline standard.
Personally I only shoot and stock CCI. Long before the shortage.May the Bridges I burn light the way.

Not that nuts, you can find it all day long at 8 cents per round; and deals of 5-7 cents per round pop up daily.
But the local supply is down due to flippers and people stacking deep so they can ahead of the game during the next panic. Which WILL be approaching along with election time."Bangarang Peter!"Comment

These ammo hoarders will never shoot it all, so I usually can wait to buy it at their estate sales cheap! [emoji79]Comment

Cabelas, at all hours of the night. No need to wait for hours when you can stalk .22 from home. I have found .22 randomly but don't buy it unless I absolutely need it.

I save the stash for my wife to shoot, I won't pay over a nickle for them. I switched to reloaded .223 and cheap commie 7.62 x 39.
I will not buy again unless the price drops. The hoarders can have all of them, I don't care anymore. Let them eat lead.Comment

Prices are high because someone is willing to buy at high prices. Flippers see the profit potential and will line up at Walmart or whoever sells it when everyone else is asleep to clear out a local stores inventory.
The feeling of being caught with your pants down is still fresh on people's mind so they continue to buy until they've had their fill. Eventually everyone will be stocked up and availability will be better, but at the same time the manufacturers now know what you're willing to pay 22LR for and will raise the prices as well.Comment

Big5 in Santa Barbara had .22 on the shelf this weekend, had it a week ago also. Does not seem to moving off the shelf very fast. Don't know the price, I still have about half a box of 50 of .22 from 30 years ago which was the last time I fired my .22's and I reload all my ammo now so didn't ask the price but it was there.sigpic

My local Big 5 has been having .22 at pretty close to pre panic prices, which at Big 5 is pretty high anyway.
Right around the corner they're still flogging American Eagle at $80/500.

Just speculating. Anyone with more intel on the state by state supply/demand?
OTOH my LGS has had a problem getting any. He doesn't gouge so when he does get some it goes pretty quickly..."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.

Ditto
My guess is its still being scooped up by second tier buyers. The ones who weren't able to camp in front of WalMart/Big 5.
What I do know is I miss 90_% of the sales at Midway because even though buyers are limited to 2 bricks, Midway still sells out within an hour of the e-mail notification.sigpicNRA Benefactor MemberComment

Pre planning for the next panic stock pile as much as possible. And when places like Cheaper than dirt and Big 5 are selling it for 75$ for 550 rds stat dumping it at 50$ .
No I'm not doing this when I find a decent price on 22 I buy a couple bricks . I have even give bricks to friends who could not find it for their kids .Comment

It'll end when everyone has had their fill. Problem is that we have not recovered from the previous panic and that everyone's appetite for 22lr is different. I'm one of those that will not pass up on an opportunity to buy some CCI 22lr if I came across them. This method of buying is what got me through the panic.
If things stay this way for another year or so, I'd venture to say that most people will feel comfortable with what they have and begin to pass on it. But the looming threat of another panic is always there.Comment
