Why I hate my 11 day wait.....

One of the local gun stores in my area requires an 11 day wait. I understand why they do it. They don't want to run the risk of releasing a gun before the final 24 hour period is over. It's them going above and beyond to cover their but if they have a lazy counter man. They are up front with this during purchases and transfers and have it posted all over the firearms section of the store. It still sucks and I hate it but when every other LGS in the valley charges $25-$30 more for the same pistol even after asking for a price match what are you going to do?

I still have two more days and a wake up to go and all I can think about is an 11 day wait time. I 'm surprised the waiting period even bothers me anymore after all my gun purchases but every single time I'm still chomping at the bit.

    Don't feel too bad..

Many gun stores are closed on Sunday/Monday, so if you buy on on a Thursday or Friday you'll also have an 11 day wait, like I have right now.

I have a local LGS with the same policy, maybe even the same place you are talking about. I always pick up on day 10. I wait a couple of hours past the actual pickup time, and I go in. Sometimes they give me static, but I always walk out with the firearm. I have another pickup to do there this week, and I will be there on day 10. If they ever want to sell me another firearm, that's the way it's gonna be. Just be sure you show up AFTER the pickup time.

The problem isn't lazy countermen, because the DROS computer will simply not let them process the release early. The problem is people who show up before 240 hours has passed, and then try to make a stink about it 'being day ten' and not wanting to wait until the release time.

I say if its saving you an extra $30, it's worth an extra day wait IMO.

Wasn't that found illegal? What ever happened to that case?

I still can't understand why shops think they might accidentily release early if they tell people 10-days. since 1/1/2014, the new DES system prints right on the DROS form that is printed out when the earliest pickup time is, an the latest time (30-days) when they have to pick up by or else start over with a new DROS.

so, once you get past that part where there is a printed time to show to the customer when to come in, even if the customer comes in early on day-10, the FFL can't deliver the firearm in the DES system. the "deliver" button doesn't become active until 240 hours have elapsed.

an FFL would be crazy to deliver a firearm when he can't hit the deliver button to get the final DROS delivery paperwork (needs the customers signature on it).

I hope were talking about the same place. I'd love to pick up on day ten. I walked in as soon as they opened and was done with DROS within 30 minutes.

It is impossible to do that anymore. The system will not allow them to complete a DROS before the 10 days is up.

With that being the case I sure would like them to go to a ten day. Unfortunately this LGS has a horrible reputation for customer service. I've never experienced it in my 30 years of buying bait and bullets myself but that's the word on the street.

I don't bother with stores who refuse to give it up after the 10th 24 hour period. My time is worth more.

Well like I said every other store is +$30 for the same gun. The closest I could get to the price was another LGS 45 minutes away that would come to +$20 over this store plus gas money to get there. By chance the store I bought it from is less than a mile from me. I buy most of my ammo their but rarely guns.

The whole 10 day wait is aggravating, so an 11 day wait is 10% more aggravating.

We have to decide what angers us more. Spending an extra 30 bucks, or waiting an extra day.

Well in my case, in this instance the 30 bucks was the motivating factor. I just needed to come here to vent.

Personally I hardly ever pick up on the tenth day because of my schedule. I am coming up on 17 days for a PPT I did on November 6th. How would some deal with picking up on the 12th day based on the LGS hours? Some places are closed on Mondays or Tuesdays.

The local Big 5 still does 11 days, even though it is now impossible to deliver earlier than 240 hours. I am told it is 'corporate policy'.
