    My go-to gun

Disclaimer: I am not a prepper but I like to be prepared.

(I know this is going to sound kind of half-baked but with the recent events got me thinking a bit)

I have a 9mm pistol that I can access easily with two full-loaded MAGS (I don't have young kids at home any more) but what if I need something else? I have ammo for all of my guns but it's not easily accessible.
Given the recent events in the world I needed to come up with a way to come up with a way to access at least one long-gun. Here's what I've come with:

    My 1959 Sino-Soviet Type 56 SKS

There is 11 more stripper clips (for a total of 12 with 10 rounds per stripper clip)

It's a accessory bag that came with a gas grill and since I don't need it for the gas grill, why not put it to good use?

    Thoughts?

having ammo readily available for more than one weapon is a standard for me, and having more than one weapon readily available is a standard for me. it's always good to reassess how we defend home and family. i'll continue to do what i've long been doing; no immediate changes on the horizon.

Why not just keep one of these at the ready? I have one and it holds 24 stripper clips.

The OP did mention that he has 2 clips for his 9mm pistol...
Not a biggy but I still do hate mags referred to as clips.

My error - changed the terminology from "clips" to "MAGS"

Must have "clips" on da brain

                      Hey Dennis,

I don't have the option of leaving unsecured firearms in the home. I would at least take a large umbrella and flop it over the top. That way if friends or relatives walk the wrong way to the bathroom, they won't want to touch it. That's just if you want to keep it out in the open.

And btw you can practice spear chucking the umbrella at the intruders first or tossing it up in the air to distract them as you blow a hole in them for not reading the sign on the way in.

And while you are thinking safety in the home, it does not hurt to make sure that you have a safe room door that has a strong lock. Sometimes it's better to retreat and take cover first, send a buzz out to 911 and train your hold on the door while letting them know out loud to immediately leave or suffer the consequensks.

Ya. Get one of these holds a lot of ammo! Period as well. I have one loaded up in garage and don't even have an SKS.

solid setup for sure. do you live in suburbs, apartment, etc anywhere to where your neighbors themselves would be within 25 yards or so of your residence? if so I would have the first 3 rounds as jhp (if you don't already) to hopefully avoid over penetration (probably would still over penetrate most the time).

Dennis, this is 'Merica, and we shoot ARs. Soviet products are for terrorists. Now put that commie gun in your gas grill and get a proper set up. Matt

Americans only shoot AR's? It has to be an Armalite Product? Which one?

And since I no longer bother owning any Armalite design (Though for the sake of transparency I must admit I have been eyeing an AR-50A1 lately), does that make me not located within America?

Well actually you stated 'Merica. I wonder were that is. Sounds like a dreary place with only one source of firearms.

And, friend, that is a Sino-Soviet SKS. Is there anything more American than Chinese goods?

Ah well, joking aside, that's a fair setup. Personally for all-around preparedness I prefer my long arm to come in the 12 gauge variety, as there is nothing that comes close to the options they afford. The Jack of All Trades approach, if you will.

One thing though, if your expecting to be thrust into a situation necessitating 140 rounds (even in puny intermediate and pistol cartridges) as just what you happen to have on hand in those first moments, then maybe you should invest in some body armor. Soft armor doesn't take up too much space, and steel plates offer solid protection (and are reasonably economical).

Just saying, as a bug-out or emergency weapon's purpose isn't so much paramilitary work but, you know, survival one typically doesn't have the advantage of group tactics, such as having someone else walk around a corner first to see if there is in fact a hostile gunman over yonder, it might be a good call to stack the deck in whatever way possible said gunmen doesn't hit something squishy.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.
