Locking Handgun Bag

Using large plastic box to transport my handguns, but would prefer a locking soft bag. Are there such bags that are legal in Calif?

YES, as long as the 'soft bag" totally encloses the firearm, and is lockable. The law reads "Container" but does not define matl containers is made of.

Are you looking for some type of specialty bag or just a range bag? Most range bags these days have locking zipper pulls. I'm pretty sure the Midway bag does which is a knockoff of the Shooters Connection bage (which most certainly does).

I think too many bags have that 'Gun' look to them. It ought be a bit more discreet. Though not many folks walk into a range with a toiletry bag most will figure a gun inside as you walk through the entryway to range.

I use this one for a .22 mag, clear pocket is lockable with TSA luggage lock.

I use this, a toiletry bag, both zippers meet in the middle and attach a TSA luggage lock.
Mine is black though Pink, Green, Beige and camo are available

Everything I've read says lockable container with no mention of bag specifications.

Since you stated "it needs to be", you are indicating an actual legal requirement.

Please post the link to either the Penal Code reference that states this requirement, or to the case law where the courts determined that a hard locked container is required.

I won't hold my breath, because the Penal Code holds no such language, and there has been to date not one single court ruling establishing this as a requirement.

In other words, unless you know what the hell you are talking about it is best to STFU.

I'm surprised at how many range bags do NOT come with zippers designed to be locked. Yes, you can usually loop a luggage lock though the pulls on the zippers, but the best way is to get a bag with those zippers that have the interlocking loops on them so you're locking the actual zipper together and not just the pulls. The few that I've found, up 'till now, are not very well designed bags, or only have one compartment with the nicer lockable pulls, or is slathered with hard to remove logos and company names.

I finally found a very nice product that is sold on Amazon. http://www.explorerbag.com/new-arriv...nge-ready-bag/ It's a bit large for my usual visits to the range, but when I take extra guns, and ammo, and other stuff, it's a good size. I easily removed the small sewn on logo so that bag is a little more anonymous and I removed the large pull on the main zipper as well. 'Looks more or less like an athletic bag now.
