Shooting with dad, hell, fishing, camping, doing anything with dad is a great bonding experience at those ages. And it's always nice to hear the stories from proud dads. Thumbs up.

Seriously considering taking my 6.5 year old daughter plinking soon. Not so much to get her into guns but to just get some safety ingrained in her and take some of the mystique away from my firearms.

Both my daughter (5) and son (4 next month) love helping me with anything gun related. They know not to ever touch a gun without either my wife or me telling them it's OK. They both have the 4 rules down pretty well and will sometimes ask me to open the safe to hold a gun. I try to always comply so that they feel comfortable asking me and I can eliminate some of the curiosity.

Sounds like an awesome father & son day! My boy is 8 and we started with the Red Ryder BB gun last year shooting targets. Looking forward to this day as well!

hell yeah. I try to take my 2 boys shooting at least once a month, there 9-10 now and we've been doing it for about a year and a half now. they started with a 10-22 and have both moved up to 9mm pistols and occasionally a few rounds out of my 12g, with light loads. the bonding time we spend in the truck and on the hill is priceless. I highly recommend it to anyone with children, it the best day of the week for all of us.

Good times op. I started my step son on a red Ryder to teach him the basics at 5 years old. For his 6th birthday he got his rascal single shot 22lr, and around 7 years old I felt he was ok to start with a single action 22lr revolver. Now he's 8 years old and handles my AR15 pretty well shooting off the bench.

Every child is different, my daughter is 4 years old and really wants to go but I think she may need to wait longer because she has a harder time following direction than he did but we will see.
