Having a safe is a good idea, but I 100% blame the dirtbags who stole them. We are so desensitized to crime and low life criminals, that even when they break down doors and enter homes, somehow it's the residents fault.
I agree with you, but knowing the community you live in and not taking the appropriate steps to protect your property is short sighted.

sorry to hear your loss. yeah, uc is small but thugs and gangs are rampant allright. I used to park my van outside my dad's house in uc, and in broad daylight someone just throw a rock on the passenger side window and try to steal something.

my dad's place has an alarm system that alerts the security company and the police.

I lost 18 guns 5 years ago to thieves. Carried away my small safe.

My first purchase after a Smith .38 was a big ***** safe!!

I got 2 guns back since by police recovery.

For those of you inclined to do so, I ran across a free software package from the Insurance Information Institute. It allows you to take a inventory of your home, document all the items, add pictures, etc.

It takes a little time to set up all the rooms and document everything but in a situation just like the OP described I am sure it would come in handy when giving the popo your inventory of stolen goods as well as your insurance company.

I'm not even entirely sure about that, but I think on the DROS questionnaire one of the questions asks you if you've ever had a any guns stolen from you. If I am wrong however, anyone who wants to tell me so and prove it please do so in a civil manner, there is no need for smartass remark to prove who knows more than who. I just feel that coming that's all.

I just filled out a 4473 on Saturday and that was not one of the questions asked on the form.

People don't realize that having a safe doesn't mean you're not going to have your property stolen. It's peace of mind, and it definitely makes it harder to steal, but give a criminal time and even many large home safes can be defeated. Some thieves broke into my old employers office years ago. The crooks removed the safe that was bolted to the floor of a large closet one weekend when everyone was out. Tools were used to break it wide open. The safe in question was similar to any California approved gun safe, and not a lock box, or cheap safe by any means. That was an eye opener for me.

It ain't about him. It's to drive the lesson home to all the other fools out there with several thousands invested in firearm and no safe. If your got two firearms, 1 ought to locked up. If you've spent $1000 on firearms you ought to have spent $500 on a safe.

Now that you've just had a whole stash of guns stolen from you, I don't even think you re gonna be able to buy guns anymore. The DOJ is gonna know that you lost a whole stash of guns and they are out on the streets. You will NOT pass DROS on any firearm purchase, possibly for the rest of your life, I am sorry to say that, but the DOJ and ATF is not gonna take this lightly like the stupid Sheriffs. I hope they dusted for prints, you didn't mention if they did or not.
Seriously, you should shut the **** up with that nonsense.

a $2000 600lb safe will not stop an intruder trying to break in. The would still probably have broken the back door, still kicked his dogs to the side, saw the big safe, probably left it alone then continue to take the TV and computer stuff instead. He might still have the collections, but the BG is walking away with other valuable items, such as a computer or laptop loaded with photos and contact info of your loved ones. I think most of us would work another two or three jobs in order to regain the collections, but it's feeling of someone invaded your home that will not go away for a long long time.
