No, I've never overpaid for any firearm I own. If it's overpriced I just continue to look elsewhere til I find it.

A PPK/S. Pistol looks cool and has nice history but I don't enjoy shooting it. Maybe because it's iconic or there are other .380s I shoot. I'm not a believer in safe queens so as it sits in its rug, it's not giving me much pleasure (hence I paid too much for little enjoyment).

Overpaid...no. Found it for less at a later point.....yes. But that isn't overpaying as neither price was even close to MSRP let alone above it.

OP you are misusing the word "overpaid" in the context of you posted example.

Shorter list would be what I DIDN'T overpay for...

Yours was a 10% premium - mine was over a 20% higher price.

I went to my local dealer and paid $100 more - or $107.50 more with tax.
Turners, a 20 min drive away had the same gun for $100 less.

Ah well, guess I'm keeping small local stores alive.

Yes, but I don't really care about overpaying $50. In the long run my ammo for will be greater than the gun and 50 over 20 years isnt much

Moe than ten years ago I was offered a cherry P38, all matching numbers, Spreewerke built, with spare magazine and SS issued holster. The guy I bought it from was a young lieutenant in March 1945 and he killed the German the pistiol was issued to.

Now he was dying of cancer and needed money for his treatment so when I was paying his wife for it I kind of rounded up by another $150 to make it an even grand.

                  Do I regret it? No.

I figure there are some times when the situation calls for more consideration than simply what you have to pay.

I'm usually pretty frugal with my firearm spending so I haven't been burned too bad. A couple that come to mind:

In '08 after the election I paid $150 for a stag lower

Just recently I paid $430 for a ca shield, but with free dros. So it was a little over $460 otd.

Not a big spread comparing what many paid during the panic of possible ban few years ago. $6K for a POF 415, $5K for a Bulgy AK47. $500 for S&W lower AR receivers. $3 per round for surplus 7.62mm. $200 per Pmag308. Those were the days, huh?

That is vastly different than being fleeced and bent over being a panic buyer. My dad did that once, paid a guy $50 more he felt bad how low the guy wanted to sell the gun.

I know $25 to $50 too much sounds dumb and I usually won't let guns go for $25 too much anymore but I really enjoy getting good gun deals and I wouldn't have been able to afford such a massive gun collection and piles of ammo without being a judicious shopper.

Currently I'm passing up a gun that is hard to find and I've always sort of wanted because I feel it is about $100 more than I'd like to pay even though the gun is hard to get in CA. Will I ever get one? Probably not but not a huge deal. Fires an obscure hard to reload for and get caliber and I have piles of other guns so I figured I'd be responsible and just pass it up.

One thing I've learned is a good gun deal is always just around the corner. I may miss one but with millions of guns in circulation and me always being on the hunt another always comes along. I have a good amount of disposable income so I can buy whatever I want within reason but I am not rich so it does make sense at times for me to pass up the OK or fair deals and wait for the excellent ones so I can afford to buy more guns.

                            Used Mossberg 500 for $250.
Damn place charged me sales tax too, which is BS. Its a used gun.
                            Sharpshooters is way over priced.

FFL's are required to charge sales tax on used guns even if consignments.

I bought a new HI Power back in 2000 for top list price plus shipping (about $725). I could easily get a grand for it now. Any good gun will grow into whatever you pay for it.
