    KNOW your target

So we were having our practice day on the 1000 yard range at Sac Valley for tomorrow's tactical long range match. It was a bit foggy. A couple times we had to stop because the targets disappeared in the fog.

For those who have not been on the 1k range there, there are target boards with HUGE numbers on them in front of the target berm so the shooters will KNOW they are shooting at their target. Now none of the target boards are in double digits. They're numbered 1-9, and then 0 to 9 (for 10-19), and then 0 to 5 (for 20-25)

I was running the pits while another group was shooting. One of the target pullers made the comment that his shooter had not shot on the target (#6) for a while. I called the line to see if the guy was going to shoot. Get a call back telling us the shooter was shooting at target #16.

Ok, you think the guy was just crossfiring because he saw a 6, right?

One problem though. We only had targets up on positions 2 through 11.

There WAS NO target up at position 16. He was shooting at thin air where he THOUGHT there might be a target he couldn't see in the fog.

KNOW your target or DON"T shoot at it.

I won't say who it was. We'll just wait and see if he responds because he is a regular poster on this forum.

I guess I'm confused - didn't anybody talk to the shooter during or just after the practice? What's the point of calling him out on calguns?

And no it wasn't me. I was painting a shed today. Honest.

Quite irrelevant but I sold a Henry to a nice gentleman who gave me a sticker and flyer for the Sac Valley Shooting Center. His name was Mr. Wise. Seems like quite the nice facility out there.

Is the website up to date about membership and fee's?

At first I felt sorry for SS, but his response to ohsmiley's gentle ribbing got rid of that. After this, don't think I'll let people know my calgun's username at my first IPSC match.

Oh, jeez! I attended my first IPSC match, and a friend told me I was so tense that if I had a penny up my butt I could've had 100 feet of wire. Well, the match was on video, and sure enough - just robotic. Really bad.

I told the RO afterward that my goal was to not get DQ'd. He said his goal for me was to leave with the same number of orifices I came with.

He was spoken to about it on the spot. Now he knows better. Quite honestly, he's lucky he wasn't pulled off the line. One of our safety brief rules states an ND is sending a round down range when there are no targets up, and is grounds for removal.

He could not see to know if his target was up or not (the target that wasn't up, that he was cross firing on). Technically that makes it an ND.

ND stands for negligent discharge. He was.

I knew who it was. Randall knew who it was. Neither of us mentioned the persons name. So "technically" we did not call anyone out. We just posted about a range incident.
