First thing the family did when they uncovered one of the deceased's guns was call the cops...

So they seized 6 (the registered ones) and missed the other 20. The family did the right thing and called the police before the guns loaded themselves and went on a shooting spree. It must have been so scary and tramatizing that the family will have years of therapy just to undo what might have happened because these were unregistered.
