My time between shooting sessions decreased a lot when I stopped going to indoor ranges. Angeles and A Place To Shoot in Saugus are the only two ranges I like to shoot now.

Too many idiots at the indoor places these days, and too little supervision. I haven't been shooting in about four months. But I'll confess, I went ten years without pulling a trigger. My son was born in '96 and I didn't shoot until 2006.

I had the same experience as TeddyBallGame. I was in the process of buying myself a new handgun and was asked for my HSC. Never heard of it. But got 100% on the test. (Which isn't much to brag about, that's one helluva easy test)

It's a good year for fishing! No bans on the horizon so you're not missing out on any opportunities by not buying now. I'd rather catch a 200# bluefin local than buy a gun.

Dont sweat it. I didnt shoot from Oct 2014 till last weekend because I bought a house and was remodeling in all my spare time. I bought a gun or two a month and thousands of rounds of ammo during that time.

I built a AR and shot it once in 2013 but I have a case of .223 in my car that showed up yesterday and another case on the way.

Can you shoot the fish? Just don't dry fire while reading books at night. It's ok to keep it separate.

i have a 5 month old and i cant find time to go to the range ive purchased 3 handguns and a shotgun in that time but no time to go this is the longest ive gone without shooting in the 7 years ive been shooting

While we all understand how hectic and demanding life can be, if you keep a gun for self defense in your home or worse carry a gun. You should be getting at least some practice in and to say in three years you could not find even one half a day, a couple hours of time to try and stay at least somewhat familiure with firing live ammo is hard to believe.
Now if it's truely just a hobby and your guns are never kept out of the safe for protection, no big deal.
But if you keep a gun out for self defense and plan on using it to protect your family and have not shot it in three years. You are being negligent and should put it away until you dedicate some time to training/practice.

Does not mean your not an enthusiast, just that you can't shoot very well. It's a perishable skill you know.

It's perishable to a degree. I didn't shoot very often after my daughter was born. When I finally made it to the range, I shot better then I did when I was shooting 200rds 3-4 times a week. My uncle told me its that I forgot what a flinch was lol.

I do dry fire my HD weapon with proper sight picture and front post alignment...but we all know it's not enough!

Same here, I dry fire my self defense handguns just about every day. Its the next best thing to actually firing.

I helped raise my nephew that was enough for me to realize that kids aint for me.

The same has happened to me. I used to regularly shoot high power and smallbore matches. When my daughter was born, I devoted all my time to being with her. I also have to work more to provide my daughter the things she wants. During this time, just like DevilDawgJJ, I have acquired more guns, ammo and reloading equipment for the day when I can resume my shooting sports.

I don't regret giving up my hobbies to spend time with my daughter. I can already see the return. She is strong willed, gets good grades, and I have zero behavioral issues with her. She turns 12 years old in 3 weeks, and recently she has become even more independent, and has began spending more time with her friends. I think I will be able to resume my shooting in the near future.

Wait...did I read that right and you haven't shot in over 12 years!?

My firearms layoff was nearly 20 years. Family, work, other interests. It happens. It's taken me about 6 months to feel like I'm back to where I once was with a pistol, and maybe even a bit better (I'm closing in on "average" I believe).

Nice to see that you have your priorities straight. You can always come back to gun enthusiast status. Your kids are only that age once.
