Gun Laws in other (select) countries

Thailand isn't as bad as we think. Yeah, guns are expensive but this to keep them out of the hands of the middle class. Price lists I have indicate a Glock 19 is now $4500 USD. a box of 9 is $50 bucks. The middle class in Thailand drive 125CC motor scooters. They can't afford guns and don't need guns.

My wife is Thai. And a U.S. Citizen. Outsiders can't own Real Estate in Thailand like a house. But Condo Complexes can sell up to 49% of a buildings condos to foreign buyers. My wife owns 2 condos and one family home from long ago.

The second condo we bought together in Jomtien, next door to Pattaya which is world headquarters of Hedonistic Debauchery. And 100s of great places to eat next to the beach...

We were there for a month recently and since the Coup, the Military has tightened the availability of guns. There are still more than a 1000 gun ranges for the tourists, with long lines of Chinese and Japanese paying $2.00 per bullet. Most of these people have never held or seen a handgun before.

All rifles are .22 in Thailand even the AK looking Rifles.

Bangkok has more than 70 gun stores , they have handguns that we can't get. If you're middle class (can get a Visa and have a bank account, home, car, ) you can have your wife buy a handgun. Yeah, be careful. Down in Phuket still lots of gun stores and shooting ranges. Phuket is the number one tourist destination in the world, Bill Gates flys his Gulfsfream 6 Non stop into Phuket.

Hmm, I didn't think that was possible. I thought Thai forbids dual nationality. Don't you had to pledge allegiance to the Royal family in Thailand above all?

I asked this very question to my Thai gf recently and she indicated that she had to give up her Thai citizenship when she became a US citizen.

Soon Canada will have less strict gun laws than California.

No Long gun registration.

No waiting period per se. You have to wait for registration docs for handguns or restricted firearms.One to three days I am told.

Long guns (unrestricted) pay and take it away.

No BS roster.

Interesting. My Thai wife has a U.S. passport and a Thai passport. She's a property owner in Thailand and has bank accounts and free medical services in Thailand as a Thai Citizen. She recently visited the Thai Embassy in Los Angeles to renew her Thai Passport. They knew she was a US citizen from 5 years ago.

Maybe they simply aren't enforcing this no dual citizenship rule?

When we travel to Thailand we go thru the short "Thai Citizen" line at the Airport. She presents her US Passport. I follow her in line.

Ive been to every country in central america and costa rica was the only place I saw a gun shop. This was a few years ago, not sure if laws have changed. When I went to a club in Honduras the guy in front of me checked his glock at the door and put his mag in his back pocket, so I think you can own there.

You can own guns in Barbados but you have to belong to a gun club. I was walking down the street in Kingston Jamaica, motor cycle passed me at a high rate of speed. Police car was giving chase. The cop riding shotgun was hanging out the window shooting an AR. That was exciting. I was sitting at a restaurant in the Dominican republic having lunch and the gentleman at the table next to me showed me his Glock.


In Guam I saw a shooting range for the Japanese tourists, also saw a local pig hunting with an AR. In the Philippines I think you can own firearms if you know the right people. The security guard at my work had a shotgun with no trigger guard and missing tang saftey also had a .38. In his belt were several .38s with red painted bullets. I asked him what they were he said "poison bullets". He claimed that if he shot someone in the arm they would die.


Never made it to europe.


I like firearms. I love living in the USA.

Jamaica cracked down on guns and gangsters some years ago and formed the Gun Court specifically to try firearms related crimes. Possessing an unlicensed firearm is a guaranteed prison sentence.

An annual firearms permit in Jamaica cost $6,000J or $52US.

Yes, but previously you had to get permission every time you wanted to shoot a restricted firearm, aka anything other than a hunting shotgun/bolt rifle. That's pretty restrictive so I figured it was about even until this law was lifted. Now their laws are way better, even if you can't own subcompact/some compact handguns.
