Gun Laws in other (select) countries

I'm not Swiss but from what I've known unless it has changed foreigners except those excluded from a small list of countries are able to own firearms in Switzerland. I think Serbia is one of the countries excluded. The Czech republic is also known for having pretty good gun laws.
I think shooting for fun is something they do not understand in many countries. Americans also think Israel is some sort of gun paradise. I believe their private gun ownership laws are fairly strict especially if you don't live on a settlement or something and many over there associate shooting for fun with like driving a farm tractor for fun. To them it is just a tool.Comment

I believe the UK does not restrict magazine capacity. But they HATE semi-auto weapons and handguns and will restrict the hell out of them. I read one story about an elderly UK widower who was found to have her deceased husband's WW2 Luger pistol he brought back from the war (no ammo), and they confiscated it and sentenced her to 30 years or so.
The UK is like the role model for a Police State among Commonwealth/Western nations, so sad.In Glock We Trust.

That is incorrect. You can own guns legally in Singapore.
The main difference is that you cannot take the gun home, you need to keep your guns at the Singapore Gun Club. This video explains it:
Remember that Singapore is unlike most Asian countries Americans are familiar with, they are more of a cross between Japan and German. Highly organized, heavily armed and disciplined in everything they do. They way they handle gun ownership is no exception, it is controlled and organized.Comment

Czech Republic seems pretty good- esp compared to most places in europe.
"A gun in the Czech Republic is available to anybody with a firearms license. Gun licenses are shall-issue and may be obtained in a way very similar to a driving license. Unlike in most other European countries, the Czech gun legislation also permits a citizen to carry a weapon for self-defense; concealed carry is mandatory while open carry is restricted.
The permissive politics have a very long tradition, with the term pistol originating in 15th-century Czech."

I wonder what's the gun law like in Italy? It is home to the famous Beretta company, who also own brands such as Benelli, Franchi, Burris, Stoeger and Tikka etc.Comment

Czech women are first rate as well. Italy had some weird gun laws like mags capacity is extremely limited but I think some have changed after the whole EU thing happened. I think they may have changed the law where you couldn't own military calibers so they had gun chambered in 9x21 instead of 9x19 and there was a 45acp equivalent but 1mm shorter called like 45HP.Comment

There is a guy named Raul on Gunboards that posts a lot he is Argentina and seems to have a nice collection. Some countries in Latin America have OK gun laws I think Argentina and Guatemala's are OK. Peru allows ownership but is more strict I believe.Comment

All excellent points, but in my case, I enjoy target shooting with small SS9s and like small guns in general. As far as I know, that 4.1" barrel length is the lower limit in Canada, but hey, who knows, in 8-10 years they may be worried about laser weapons and consider my puny SS9s benign.

Thanks for the video!
They way they handle gun ownership is no exception, it is controlled and organized.
You'll note that even the people in Singapore didn't know they could buy a firearm, with those interviewed saying that you can't buy a firearm.
The video also talks about having to be a Singapore citizen. Though it did say that permanent residents can also be associate members in their gun clubs. I wonder what that membership costs.
I only saw long guns in the video which isn't the kind of target shooting that I was referring to.
Plus the gun club membership is ~$2,000 + $300 a month and the gun has to stay there. And they said, "try to find a gun store to buy a gun in Singapore" - there are only 2 licensed arms dealers in the country!
You know, when they said that there were no guns on display at the gun shop and that they were kept off site, I immediately thought, boy anti-2A would love that - and can probably make a good argument for it - no more gun store burglaries I suppose.
That reminds me of trying to buy Thai real estate.
I guess that I have the American perspective on the word "ownership" - that is, it's yours, you can take it home with you, clean it when you want, disassemble and reassemble, dry fire with snap caps, etc. etc.

Yes, but Serbia and the Czech republic don't meet any other of my requirements for living there. The countries I listed in the original post is the short list. Gun ownership is the last variable that I'm considering.I'm not Swiss but from what I've known unless it has changed foreigners except those excluded from a small list of countries are able to own firearms in Switzerland. I think Serbia is one of the countries excluded. The Czech republic is also known for having pretty good gun laws.

You would think that judges have some level of common sense and discretion, but they certainly don't seem to.

Thanks!
I'll have to check out Gunboards and see if he knows anything about Chile, Costa Rica and Uruguay gun laws.
