    public wi-fi restricted calguns access

    So I was staying in Palo Alto at the Ronald McDonald house for a few weeks, I logged in to their wi-fi network and was denied access to calguns.net or any gun related site. Same thing happened at the Lucie Packard children's Hospital in standard. Has this ever happened any body else any where? Or is it bay area crap?. I usually don't access wi-fi.

    dont ever log in to an unsecured network that is not your own. You want internet on the go? Get a mobile network hot spot.

    Company's put key words in there network systems that keep people from looking up certain things online, porn guns are the most popular to block. It is not a bay thing, its a liability thing.

        Is this really that surprising? Most of CA is anti-guns.

        Did you really expect a CHILDREN's hospital to grant access to firearm websites?

            Most people don’t realize that web content filtering engines just lumps the website into a category… they aren’t singling out Calguns… You could have tried ANY weapons related website and got the same result.

            For example, here are some of the general categories I can allow or block on my firewalls web filter.

            Calguns.net falls into the “Weapons” category as seen here.

            While it is a community forum, it’s lumped into that category to make life easy for an administrator. They only have to select Weapons and the firewall dynamically adds and removed sites to that category based on its category rating. If anything it’s probably turned on by default in its standard profile when content filtering enabled…

                What? If you meant "the fappening" that had nothing to do with public wifi. That was Apple being stupid and having their security be circumvented due to an exploit. That being said, I still wouldn't use public wifi.

                Read this thread(it's one of many on the same subject). Different place, same issue, same reason.

                      Using a secure log-in for LPCH used to work (httpS://www...). If not, walk over/around to the cancer center or into Stanford Hosp and the "Stanford Visitor" network should let you on to CGN.

                              I just use my phone with a mobile hotspot app to access the interwebs. No reason to use an outside network.
