Just don't mistake 'ordnance' for 'ordinance' (and vice-versa).

Ordnance for us is any 21xx mos. If you fix things that go boom... armorers, tank/aav/lav mechs, optics techs, machinists, all "ordnance". It doesn't really make sense to me. When you says the word, I think of things that actually go boom, IE ammo/bombs... but this is a marine corps definition. I believe 18xx are considered ordnance as well because they actually pull the trigger on boom machines.

        USMC 6541

I served as an "Ordie" (Aviation Ordnance Technician) in the Marine Corps.

For our purposes "Ordnance" included all activities related to storage, tracking, reporting, inventorying, assembly, transporting, loading, arming, safeing, and downloading the bombs, missiles, rockets, flares, chaff, bullets, and maintenance (O-level & I-level) of all delivery systems for same.

On the subject of guns, we cleaned the guns (XM-218 on CH-46s), transported the guns to/from armory where applicable, and delivered the ammunition to the aircraft.

We also included the personnel as "Ordnance" as in: IYOYAS.

Further information see the AAO website: http://www.aaoweb.org/AAO/

Ordnancemen do not perform EOD functions. Damaged explosive items, expired explosives, IEDs, mine-clearing, etc. are not handled by Ordnance. In the rare case we had something wrong with a weapon while still on the aircraft, we safed the weapon, downloaded it to yellow-gear, and turned it over to EOD.

Technically, aircraft tires are also ordinance because if they tend to explode when mishandled or superheated on landing.
Dear ISIS, Texas is not known for their gun free zones.
