I have never seen a real good deal at Big 5 when it came to ammo but up until recently guns were a good deal when on sale. Prices seem to have gone up on everything by $10-20. I have bought a Mossberg 500 @$199 and a Marlin 795 @$119 about 1-2 years ago. As far as the personel that work there, 90% of them have handled more jock straps than firearms, don't expect much when you wait at the firearms counter. I still like them for the fact that they are a chain sporting goods store and still sell guns.

Sorry verycoolcat but you are wrong - here is why.
The CITY of Los Angeles require figerprints but not the county of Los Angeles. Torrance is county not city, also Culver City is not LA City, etc. I gaurantee if you go to an LA City store you will be printed.Comment

Going firearm browsing in Big 5 is almost always entertaining. You never quite know what the guy behind the counter is going to make up about the rifle he/she is showing you. It truly is entertaining. The good news is that when you buy one of their vintage rifles you can make them do back flips for you (hand picking rifles from multiple stores to find the one in the very best condition). I had them open every single box so I could pick my Mosin Nagant.
The thumb print stuff sucks, but my driver license hasn't had my current address for 4 years and I never answer my home phone anyway. They can write down whatever they want. All this can mean is more information for an investigation after the fact. Our government doesn't have the manpower or the mental energy to watch every single person that buys bullets from Big 5. I've only been shooting for about 7 years and I've probably gone through about 10-15k rounds of ammo. That is a lot of information to pull together to do nothing with."You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can't wipe your friends on the couch"Comment

A couple of years ago i walked into a Big 5 to grab a box of .45 acp hardball. Pimple faced kid "Can i help you"? "Got any .45 acp hardball"? "Uhhh....that's ammo...right"? says pimple faced clerk. "Uhhh...yeah". "Uhhh...i don't see any...guess we're out of it" while looking at several boxes marked ".45 auto". Did a quick about face and moved out smartly. Ain't been back since.Comment

For those of you that live in big city's with a lot of gang shooting is why big5 is doing that .I live here in the central valley they do not .I read that Walmart stopped selling ammo in the bay area here in my area they sell ammo even the good stuff like winchester ballistic tips wow was i surprised.I paid 26 bucks for 20 rounds of 243 winchester supreme.Still cheaper than cabalas.Originally Posted by olhunter View Post

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.ProShooter's

Wally world in Pomona require you to fill out a waiver form from the local police department taking down you DL info / DOB / Phone/ Address / Ammo caliber / Ammo brand / Ammo quantity......Originally posted by grammaton76Wally World's clerks always ask to see my DL, but only to prove I'm over 21 on ammo. I've never actually had them swipe mine...Comment

Why do you guys buy from Big 5 anyway? The ammo prices are double normal prices.
Walmart in Huntington Beach has a huge stock of WWB, esp .45 the last time I was there. They just ask for ID to check your age (Sometimes!). It pops up on the little price display on the cash register "Restricted Item 21+" or something along the lines of that. Well the last time I was there, either the clerk was being lazy and decided not to check my id, or at 22 years of age, I LOOK WAY OLDER than 21. haha. *shrug.Comment

Don't forget that occasionally, clerks take a moral / pro-2A stance against checking ID on ammo. It's weird but I ran into that once at Wally World in Oceanside.Originally posted by SupernamWell the last time I was there, either the clerk was being lazy and decided not to check my id, or at 22 years of age, I LOOK WAY OLDER than 21. haha. *shrug.Primary author of gunwiki.net - 'like' it on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Gunwiki/242578512591 to see whenever new content gets added!Comment

Oh don't get the idea that I like Big 5. I pretty much exlusively shoot WWB through my AR (the price is outstanding.) However Big 5 carries the CCI Blazer 22LR that my neos adores. I should probably just order a case online and be done with it for awhile. Please, calm down.Comment

I know this is gonna make people think I'm a bigot, but I really hate the bay area. The disproportionally high number of African and Latino gangbangers really make life hard on the honest working American gun owners who live in the area.
The offenders get all the sympathy, do the crime, then turn around and get welfare.
We as a society get nothing in return. Lock them up or deport them, I'm through feeling bad for people for a while.Originally posted by cvigueThis is not rocket surgery.Comment

Geez, I haven't bought ammo retail in about a year. Online. No Sales tax (Thats the sweetest part...screwing CA out of taxes!). I think Graf's even has free shipping.
Grafs, Natchez, Midway all beat the crap out of even wally-worlds pricing. Especially on things like 12GA slugs and .45 JHP.Dad was right - Never trust anything that can bleed for 3 days and not die.Comment

odd, B5 only wants to see my DL for a age verification. but if they really wanted a phone number, just give them 1 (416) 264 4570. (note, I dont know if this is a real number)
oh, and a bonus to whoever figures out all the references in it."There are four boxes to be used in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury and ammo. Please use in that order"
