    Big 5 bs, total BS

I went to Big 5 to get some 22 ammo for the shoot n q (my U22 loves CCI blazer) and some 223 if they had a good price. So I choose out my ammo and then the guy asks me for my drivers license as well as my full name, and phone number. He takes out a folder and theres a sign in sheet basically where you have to sign your name and give your phone number. WTF? I was so mad. Talk about an invasion of privacy. I protest and demand a reason why I have to do all this and he his response is "I'm sure you've heard of the BSIS (uh no, and when I ask what that is he stutters and has to think before he says) its the Bureau of Security Information Service. There was a shooting up at the BART station so now the "BSIS" is making them change their policies. When I inquire further about what exactily the "BSIS" is he TRIES to explain that they're the state run agency that issues gun permits, baton permits, etc. I'm so mad that I actually did this, the only reason I actually did it is so that I have ammo for the shoot n q.

Sorry for the long incomprehensable post. I'm quite steamed right now. Not to mention Walmart swiped my DL for no reason when buying 9mm today as well without asking or anything. What is this BS
    Please, calm down.

Dont go to Rite-Aid and buy any cough medicine or your really going to blow your stack.
With cameras at every other intersection, swiping your DL, your govt mandated GPS phone, listening to your calls and using you ATM/Credit Card the government knows EVERYTHING about you.
Next thing we will all find out they're selling the info to advertisers. Actually I think banks already do it.

oh I forgot they're reading your emails too

and another thing....if you have cable or satellite tv they know what you watch. Heck, if you have Tivo they know what your watching again.

just remembered....hope you dont use a grocery store discount card to save the extra dough at the check out line because its all in a data base

btw...Google will be handing over your on-line searches

My wife has a credit card from New York and Co. clothing stores. They recently lost a case where some customers sued over the requirement to give a telephone number before being allowed to complete a transaction. The company had to hand out millions in gift certificates to their credit card holders.

You're right- it is total BS. I've let many stores know that they cannot make this informarion a requirement for purchase.

BSIS stands for Bureau Security INVESTIGATIVE Security. Their a sub division of Consumer Affairs and only deal with security officers, alarm companies, private patrol operators, private investigators and related security training facilities. They have nothing to do with the sale of guns, ammo, batons, or pepper spray. They are licensing agency only.

I was asked that when I was in the bay Area, in the El Cerrito one. I promptly left and went to alameda store and the clerk just said "cash or charge?"

if it becomes a company policy I will not step in a Big5 ever again.

Wally World's clerks always ask to see my DL, but only to prove I'm over 21 on ammo. I've never actually had them swipe mine...

I guess you would never want to buy ammo in L.A. city area. You have to not only show DL and give phone number/address, you also have to give a thumb print in their books. At least I think they are still doing this. I haven't bought ammo in L.A. for so long I have no idea any more.

I went to the Big 5 in San Jose for some hydro-shock, the guy was doing the sale, toward the end I showed him my ID and he said "Oh YA.....thanks"

                      Weird.

I went to the Big 5 in Livermore on Friday to buy some 762x54r, and they didn't ask for anything at all.

Although the Walmart in Livermore did recently take out it's ENTIRE guns & ammo dept... they don't sell anything like that there, anymore...

You have no idea what the hell are you talking about

I've bought ammo from big5, la gun club and lax range. The lax range was the only one NOT in LA CITY, but in la county.

Plus I go to sharpshooters over in torrance.

Never once was I required to sign or give any information except my drivers liscense and that was (a) to verify age (b) to hold onto while i shot.

Never gave a thumbprint except for DROS.

If big5 did that to me. I would go ahead with it then inquire about it then bring up the issue then say that my rights ahve been violated all that jazz I don't even know whether the information was sold or not and that I have gotten a few calls from telemarkers lately on my CELL PHONE. (weird yet true). They would probably give you a gift certificate.

I was asked to put down my personal info + thumbprint when I bought some ammo at the Big5 at the corner of wilshire and san vicente. That was about a year ago.

a big +1, they issue licenses, not keep track of ammo

I've purchased ammo from 3 Big 5's (Reseda, Granada Hills, Van Nuys) and all of them required me to give a thumbprint in their book. That's why I don't purchase ammo from any Big 5's anymore.
