This event in Charleston was caused by this deranged psycho, nut job. To me, he shows the existence of real evil in this world. The kind of evil that all people should stand up and fight against.

This worthless piece of trash picked a defenseless church, with a bunch of people working hard to make themselves and their community a better place. He knew he would be unopposed.

I think we would all say the people in that church would have been justified in defending themselves, had they been able to.

Recently, in other places like Ferguson, NYC, and Baltimore, black people have been killed by the police. "Black lives matter" has been the out-growth of those incidents. I believe that black people feel that they are targeted by police, and they feel helpless to do anything about it.

I do not understand the call by people on the left to take away the right to keep and bear arms from people that are seemingly targeted not only by crazed lunatics, but by the police. Why would anyone want to leave good people defenseless in the face of these things?

I have been running these thoughts through my head over the weekend, trying to make sense of this. The left wants everyone disarmed except the police, but the police are already assumed to be wantonly killing black people. How does anyone justify this logic?

I am at a loss. Please help me sort this out.
We tend to view politics as a dogfight, which draws you to pick a side. Once that happens it's just a question of how hard you'll fight.

In reality, we're not dogs in a fight as much as we're the scraps that the true players gorge themselves on.

The powers behind politics don't run for election and they don't really care about religion, guns, abortion, or rights. It's not who wins the election but the amount spent in the election that matters.

The war on drugs has resulted in our country housing 25% of the world's incarcerated population making us the leader in percentage of population incarcerated. It hasn't however reduced drug use.

The government has effectively removed a generation of black men from society, with the majority being minor, non-violent offenders. These men will eventually return to a society that doesn't welcome ex-cons.

Laws passed, billions spent, the prison industry created, with no real effect on drug use other than the legalization of the drug that tens of thousands went to jail for possessing.

I think the results can support black American liberal's belief that their government is against them as well as the white American conservative's belief that the black community is in disarray and not contributing.

I don't do drugs and I'm not a liberal but to me, this is the contributing factor to the state of racial tension in politics today.

Why? So you can be a soft target? The mindset that believes that bad things can't happen to me because I'm a good person is misguided & naive. You can have faith & pray all you want, but the Lord expects you to do your part to keep yourself safe in a dangerous world.

I get that and respect it; but soft targets are just to easy for some nut to pass up. These psychos are cowards and want as many defenseless victims as possible to prey upon. I don't see how a few responsible people carrying concealed firearms (out of sight- out of mind) would disrupt anyones religious experience.

I can explain it to you. Politicians have one job, that is to get reelected. From the moment they are sworn in to office, they start campaigning. The easiest way to get elected again is to sway the stupid. Fear does this. The problem is that the ratio of stupid to smart people has been way out of balance for decades, and is getting worse daily. So think about this, do you promote common sense ideals and values that apply to the minority, or do you just keep up the same old fear tactics and stir the race pot and sway the majority. Unfortuneatly every idiot gets as many votes as an intelligent person. One. That is why we never have a good choice for president, because all the people that have any sense are kicked out by the machine that is made up of the stupid, uneducated and entitled. We are left to vote for the person that is the lesser idiot.

Personally, I would love to see a policy that says if you have been on government assistance for more than 6 months, you do not get to vote. Shouldn't the people that are paying to keep this country running be the ones who say where the money goes? I know I know...I am using logic again...I will stop.

I find little to discuss in this comment. It describes the mechanisms that drive the persistent situation and fear doctrine that keeps people voting against their own interests. It also pits ideologies against each other with hard line and angry messaging.

For example, I see myself as far more Libertarian than anything else and if you demonstrate your right with the capability to be socially responsible; then your rights should not be infringed upon. Still, I recognize that this ideology falls short in a complex society. This is why we have socialist functions within our country and other countries. I am referring to law enforcement, fire protection and the armed services--clearly more of a socialist nature. Biggus Diccus clearly sees the Monty Python absurdity of so many laws and little accountability for NOT participating in civic duties like voting.

Attacking someone who thinks a bit different than your dogma or harassing someone about spelling errors is simply counter-productive.

I'm not picking sides here, but THAT'S mighty funny.

To stay on topic very few of the antis actually believe the message they are spewing. Most try to create an emotionally powerful message that will push whatever "hidden" motivation they truly have. That's why none of the "for the children" laws make any sense at all.

It's Occam's Razor: the simplest answer is often correct.

If you buy their line that's it's about public safety everything they propose makes ZERO sense.

But if you weigh all of their proposals in the light of "pure control" then the picture becomes much more clear.

They do not care about anyone's safety one bit, the agenda is to gain as much control as possible, preferably with the people choosing to surrender it willingly.

Exactly.....like why would actively fight against having armed guards or armed teachers at schools as a means to prevent or curtail school shootings? Seems like a narrowly tailored response specifically targeting the places of most concern.

But they act like it's just utter lunacy. Clearly the best choice is trying to control the entire country and everyone in it, rather than focusing your efforts on school grounds and controlling who has access there.

Too me and others of genuine supporters of 2A; some of you demonstrate the ability to think from a systems point of view--cause effect and the capability to extrapolate how your own personal behavior impacts the argument of gun control.

The responses above are simply idiotic and will drive questions attacking your cause. Many of you are completely paranoid and demonstrate the is your only concern. This is no different than those who support the Koran and Jihadist/ Sharia law---the difference is your indoctrination into a cult that will come to terms with a country.

The lack of thinking and the non-ability to even try to understand others will attract scrutiny by other sources. You see, this is the crux of the issue. Because you do not like my thoughts, I should be silenced. Yet you spout off like a zit constantly between squeezed by a more rational and sustainable society.

You cannot play the in the range of golf. Your expertise is simply smashing balls and have no finesse on the greens.

Now, I know lots of gun owners here me. They also tell me this as fact and now I get it. I had to try it myself.

The total lack of how the govt works, statements made in quote by the most insane and belief that 2A is yours alone will only demonstrate your capability to responsibly own firearms.

From the responses here: I can see more Adam Lanza's and idiots like the shooter in SC. In fact, if I were a Fed, Calgunners would be one of the first places I would look for a unbalanced and potentially suicidal fool or mass murderer.

Work it fools. Think a bit and close your pie holes if you continue to damage to the 2A. Try reading a book instead of playing Halo or Gears of War. Try riding along in the car of a police officer or join the military.

You certainly are not needed stateside to kill the 2A out of stupidity.
