How to identify gun owner

My wife and I are splitting up our guns (Divorce). She is taking hers and I am taking mine.

We have the DROS for all but 2 of them (All purchased in CA).

I really do not remember who purchased / DROS'ed the last 2.

Any suggestions on who to contact to determine the owner so we can split them.

If you search Calguns there is a form you can send to the ATF to get a list of the guns "registered."

ummmm, bit of a confusing post. If the two of you are splitting up "our guns", what does the fact of previous DROS for "our guns" have to do with anything? Once DROS'd, they are YOUR guns to do with whatever you wish. There is no requirement for any previous ownership audit trail for the two of you to equitable divide "your guns".

She purchased and DROS'ed her own, and I did the same for mine. We have agreed to keep our own purchases, but we cannot recall who bought 2 of the guns in our collection. Just trying to figure out the lawful owner so we can keep our respective property.

Second thing is the last two must be Hi-Points or something horrible if you can't remember purchasing them.

I would guess the OP and his Ex are trying to avoid having a handgun registered to the other at some point in the future. And they most likely want to keep DOJ from obtaining any additional fees by going through an another DROs.

When were they purchased? Long guns or handguns? Maybe I messed that in your op. If you remember where they were purchased the ffl would have that info.

I remember a time when this was a viable option. Not so sure today with privacy concerns and LE resource not investigating an actual crime.

Pre 91 when I would buy a private party firearm. I would have Sgt Bob at local PD run it for me to be sure it was "clean". Now told "we don't do that."
