seriously, no need to do any more administrative interpretations (ie: 1 in 30) of the law Ms Harris. move along now with your little survey, nothing to see here.

I didn't know you guys had to do that. I'd even forgot about the HSC.

I bought a used Marlin 336 when I lived in Corona back 2011 and didn't have to do anything.

They don't have any of those rules here in Utah, with the exception of a lock for the gun.

        Yes.

And cockedandglocked, did you lose many of your guns in those boating accidents?

Sadly, in each accident they all went overboard. I've really gotta quit taking my whole gun collection to the lake with me. And learn how to drive a boat.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I've bought guns from 4 different gun shops this year, and the one which made me do a safe handling demonstration made me do it for both a pistol and a lower receiver. The only other time I've had to do a safe handling demonstration is the very first pistol I ever purchased.

So, do you normally have to do a safe handling demonstration at your LGS?
I've bought a 9mm, .357 mag and a .380acp in the last 4 months and I had to do the safe handling everytime, plus they know me well at this shop.

Hmmm...which lake? (Should be an easy dive with the drought conditions.)

I'm tempted to name a lake so I can sit out there with binoculars tomorrow and watch all the divers

I always offer to do it. But, despite buying from multiple salespeople, they always say "no need, I trust you know how to do it."
It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.

X41 now, but in the past I've done it a few times. Seems some shops are by the book, and others... aren't.

One of the big places in town had me do it for a revolver. I followed the dude's instructions, performed the demonstration then he began yelling at me and accusing me of being drunk. Eventually he signed the form and let me have the gun but I almost lost it. I'll never buy from that store again.

4 different lgs. 2 required the full script. 1 handed me the pistol asked me to lock it open and check it. 1 didn't require anything

I've seen shops be lax when they know you but it is not a good thing for them to do. I always offer to do it. One shop I know the owner or worker loves doing them it gives him a chance to show you how much more than you he thinks he knows.

He got angry because I didnt hang on to every last word he was blabbing about above and beyond the demo. I didn't bother mentioning I own 50+ revolvers already and he was not telling me anything I already haven't known for decades.

Every gun ive ever purchased ive never been asked to do one. Surprisingly, up here in thr Bay Area I am shocked that target masters never asks any of their buyers to do one unless its newbies renting a handgun and not know how to handle one because of this it's shocking as they have alot of dumb dumbs come through their range.

It's required by CA laws, unless you are an exempt person. [PC 26850 & 26860]

Failure to do it can result in the CA FFL dealer losing their FFL. [PC 26800]

                            (b) The safe handling demonstration shall commence with the handgun unloaded and locked with the firearm safety device with which it is required to be delivered, if applicable. While maintaining muzzle awareness, that is, the firearm is pointed in a safe direction, preferably down at the ground, and trigger discipline, that is, the trigger finger is outside of the trigger guard and along side of the handgun frame, at all times, the handgun recipient shall correctly and safely perform the following:
                            (1) If the handgun is a semiautomatic pistol, the steps listed in Section 26853.

                            (3) If the handgun is a single-action revolver, the steps listed in Section 26859.
                            (c) The recipient shall receive instruction regarding how to render that handgun safe in the event of a jam.
                            (d) The firearms dealer shall sign and date an affidavit stating that the requirements of subdivisions (a) and (b) have been met. The firearms dealer shall additionally obtain the signature of the handgun purchaser on the same affidavit. The firearms dealer shall retain the original affidavit as proof of compliance with this requirement.
                            (e) The recipient shall perform the safe handling demonstration for a department-certified instructor.
                            (f) No demonstration shall be required if the dealer is returning the handgun to the owner of the handgun.

                            (d) The recipient shall perform the safe handling demonstration for a department-certified instructor.
                            (e) A demonstration is not required if the dealer is returning the long gun to the owner of the long gun.
