lubriplate is a fine choice, but I have a bunch of Slip 2000 and Wilson Combat so I'm currently using them. YMMV.

Mobil 1 for lube. Get ya self a quart and it'll last a lifetime. Or Ballistol CLP.

besides frog lube. .. I say frog lube . then Fire clean is really good. Mobile 1 is a pain to clean and will get onto everything

WeaponShield or Ballistol. Both has worked great as a lube as well as an exterior lube for rust prevention.

I have used plain old BreakFree CLP for a couple of decades now---both as a lube and rust prevent---no real issues and no rust!

someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I think using a silicone rag is not going to prevent you from later on stripping it off and refinishing the gun.
although I do not know how it stripped off myself, I just don't think it's as permanent as you believe it is.

also since you experts are probably going to be looking at this ..

how is just the silicone cloth alone as a rust preventive?

                  Also welcome to Calguns.

                    Ballistol.

It's all I've ever used, and the rust protection is pretty darn good. Plus you can use it on anything: wood, plastic, metal, etc.

M-Pro7 LPX Gun Oil for protection and light lubrication. Slip2000 EWG for lubricating rails & contact points. M-Pro7 Gun Cleaner for degreasing/cleaning.

A very small amount of Mobil 1 synthetic grease on pistol/rifle rails, Breakfree CLP on everything else.

                        Lubriprate is excellent as well.
